January 16, 201213 yr Hi there. I'm not a real expert, but that could be what is called Star Gazing caused by a lack of calcium. There's a product called Calcivet which you can purchase online. See here. http://www.birdcareco.com/English/Arts/Health%20arts/Fits/fits.html
January 16, 201213 yr Hello and Welcome to the Forum. I don't know if it is stargazing but it looks like he or she is twirling to one side so it probably is, I had a stargazer last year and my hen sat on the perch with her head all the way back looking at the sky. I did a google and it wasn't so much to do with calcium as a infection of types, I needed to treat here with nyastin or trimadine. Any way my hen came good and then relapsed again. My advice to a google search on startgazers and twirlers. And other than that if you are not sure and you are worried take the bird to an avian vet for an opinion.

That red colour is probably that red food dye powder that they use there all the time.
January 17, 201213 yr Hi, About the red head. Do you have a pink iodine block or it could be a blood stain. Either way nothing to get exited about. As for the twirling bird. Take him back to the seller. Or your Vet's bill will be greater than the value of the bird & with no guarantee of a cure.. Yours B. J.

January 18, 201213 yr As previously stated, that red is from rubbing on something. For instance, whatever they are eating here:
January 21, 201213 yr NO FINNIE they eating tomato and its ping on blue ones head LOL You are right, tomato would not cause that. Look around for something of a chalky substance, like a pink or red mineral block. Although it is curious that the pink is only on the tops of their heads, not around their faces and beaks. January 21, 201213 yr Indians like to put red colour on their own foreheads.. Somebody has dyed these birds. Probably the person who sold them to Vikaas. Just like the practice of Injecting fish with dyes to make them glow in different colours. Cruel practices just to make money, no thought about the animal. I only hope that the colour has only been applied to the feathers.
January 22, 201213 yr I have seen birds in markets marked with red on their heads to signify either sold or the sexes of the birds.
January 22, 201213 yr I have seen birds in markets marked with red on their heads to signify either sold or the sexes of the birds. That's interesting. There appear to be both males and females with red on them, so it could be the option to indicate sold.
