Posted January 14, 201213 yr Hi everyone, could you please help me determine the sex of one of my budgies, I was sold it as a boy and it did seem to have a blueish color when it was younger but now I suspect its a girl . They are not the best pics if you need better ones let me know thanks Ray Edited January 14, 201213 yr by step up
January 14, 201213 yr Are you able to post pictures that are a bit bigger and more close up of the cere. it is hard to tell from the pictures since they are small. you can post them as big as 640x480. Judging from those pictures, it looks like a male but l'm not positive. ~edit~ after l zoomed in l can see it a little better. It looks like a female in them. Edited January 14, 201213 yr by birdluv
January 14, 201213 yr Author Thanks, I seem to be having problems posting pics. When I check the properties on Photbucket they show 660x480 approx but after posting they are smaller I will try again. Ray
January 14, 201213 yr Its a BOY. His cere is miscoloured due to a hormonal issue, which sometimes can indicate testicular cancer in the older boys. I think he needs some additional iodine and he should be fine.
January 14, 201213 yr Author Thank you. Whats the best way of increasing his iodine level cheers Ray Sorry...... I found what I was looking for in the forum. (Should have looked it up first before asking dumb questions ) cheers Ray Edited January 14, 201213 yr by step up

January 15, 201213 yr Its a BOY. His cere is miscoloured due to a hormonal issue, which sometimes can indicate testicular cancer in the older boys. I think he needs some additional iodine and he should be fine. Whoever sold you these as 8 to 9 weeks old was misprepresenting them, as they both seem to be much older than that. If a little iodine resolves it, that would be great. But I hope the seller hasn't saddled you with expensive health problems to deal with. They are sweet looking birds. By the way, I forgot to write this on your other thread: Welcome to the forum! (And I love Dalmatians, too! )
January 22, 201213 yr Author Thanks again for your helpful tips, Look at the difference a week makes. I added an iodine block to the cage and changed their seed to Golden Cob. Even I can tell its a boy!! thanks again Ray before one week later Edited January 22, 201213 yr by step up
January 22, 201213 yr Wow he looks great now. Oh and he's probably at least 8 months old - he has iris rings that are noticeable Which most sites call "Light irises" rings I call them white When you can see them and the lack of bars on the head the bird is usually at least 8 months old - this is pretty much the stage where unless the bird has a leg band on with hatch year You can no longer tell its age because now they look exactly like one that is known to be 2, 3, or even 8 years old That's the bad thing with birds you can't look at them and know exactly how old they are. Like how vets can estimate a dogs (or cats) age by its teeth Edited January 22, 201213 yr by K&M Breeding

January 22, 201213 yr Thanks, I seem to be having problems posting pics. When I check the properties on Photbucket they show 660x480 approx but after posting they are smaller I will try again. Ray I've had this problem with photo bucket as well. It seems if I re-size a picture then when the page reloads I get the link for it and post it Then Post my reply the picture appears huge, But if I restart my browser, or Even my entire computer When i go back to the page I posted on the picture is the proper size. I was told to just hit the refresh button but I've done that numerous times and it didn't work. Only restarting my entire browser (closing it out and re opening it) or my rebooting my computer made it appear the right size on my screen. Not sure why it does it - but that's how it does it to me Every single time.
