January 4, 201213 yr G'day funkypanda, Saw an idea you may be able to copy or adapt. Was used to protect finches from currawongs on a bush block. It was a basic frame structure with 12mm square bird wire over it much like a large bird cage but with 2 large barn type doors on one of its long edges to allow the bird cage to be placed inside keeping your birds out of reach of any predators. Same theory as double wiring an aviary.
January 4, 201213 yr Author yer i tried that made a bird wire thing that gose around the budgies cage but it still scare the budgies alot but thx heaps
January 4, 201213 yr Hi , I had the same trouble years ago. A mate told me to get a plastic owl & place it on top to scare the wild birds away. I didn't believe it till he lent me his. it seemed to work. So I bought one from a garden centre. It stood on my shed till it fell to bits after a few years. I didn't have not trouble while he was up there. after a while trouble came back so I tried to get another, no luck so I bought a plastic cat, It worked just as good Yours B. J..
January 5, 201213 yr Author yer i tried a plastic snake and cat but i dident work i also tried puting some seed some where else but it dident work
January 5, 201213 yr Quite frankly no bird should be outside in a cage without supervision. They cant get far enough back in the cage when a predator reaches through for them, be it cat, rat or predatory bird. At least in an aviary they can fly back far enough from the front of the wire.
January 5, 201213 yr Author well there not fully not un supervised there out near the back door near a window where i can see the cage but get up and down to get the birds away
January 5, 201213 yr Sorry about the plastic bird/cat not working. I didn't realise your birds were in an open cage & not in an aviary. Is it worth putting your birds outside? The stress caused could possibly kill them. They must feel very unsafe exposed in an open cage. Why not keep them inside by an open window instead of outside? Yours B. J.
January 5, 201213 yr well there not fully not un supervised there out near the back door near a window where i can see the cage but get up and down to get the birds away Takes a hawk a split second to strike a cage and impale a bird with its talons. No bird should be outside in a normal cage and you inside.
January 5, 201213 yr Do the aussie natives a favour and build or buy a mynah trap. That way you will be removing an introduced pest
January 5, 201213 yr Author well theres not really any hwaks where i am and i did try putting them near a window put the birds fly in to the window and i dont really wont a dead bird
January 5, 201213 yr There Indian Myna birds right? The only good one's a dead one. They are killing off our native wildlife by taking over their nests... The only thing that stands up to them is the lorikeets.
January 6, 201213 yr Author yer its like those but there name is noise miner Edited January 6, 201213 yr by funkypanda
January 6, 201213 yr These birds. My birds are outside all the time, they are under a covered pagola area though.
January 6, 201213 yr Before I get chastized for my spelling... It should've been they're Indian myna...
October 14, 201212 yr I had my canary sitting in front of my sliding glass doors... well shaded, so that was not a concern. Suddenly, one day I caught movement at the window, looked up to see a small hawk flapping backward... I think he was pulling up out of a dive after he suddenly saw my dirty window! He was WAY too close for comfort, could have smashed the window. My birds have to do without the sunlight now. I'm going to get full spectrum lamps for them. I don't know how Luciano felt, but it scared me half to death! Diana
