Posted December 19, 201113 yr Hey guys, two things here that I need fixing with: Sparta is (what looks to me) feather plucking, I'm not sure if it's just grooming or not but..... how can i fix this, and can i tell if it's feather plucking or not? My dog (Tinks) is presumably jealous of Sparta, I spend more time with her, but when I'm playing with Sparta, she's whining... It could also be that she's dissappointed that Sparta isn't her dinner Any ideas? Any help would be great, thanks
December 19, 201113 yr Make sure you are giving Tinks lots of extra attention. Spend as much time as you can with her and introduce the pair slowly. Can't help you with the feather plucking sorry, I'm only new to budgies. Edited December 19, 201113 yr by Kaitlyn
December 19, 201113 yr It's unlikely to be feather plucking. That happens with other types of parrots but is not common with budgies. It is more likely to be normal preening. They rummage through their feathers, collecting oil from their preening gland just at the base of their tail on their lower back. They preen regularly through the day.
December 20, 201113 yr Author Many thanks to both of you, today, Tinks has seemed somewhat calm when I'm feeding and playing with Sparta now, so I think that should be fine from now on. And Stace, to me it looked like Sparta was eating its on poop lol, even though there was no poo stain left over lol
