Posted December 17, 201113 yr They're two Fallows I bought a few months ago. Both are about 1-2 years old...When I got them, both had evenly pink ceres...although one did have a bit of white around the nares, though nothing like a female; it is this one who now does kind of look like a female! Okay so this one I still think is male: And this one..Male or female? I put him/her down to breed with a hen, but all he/she did was sit in the nestbox. Didn't lay, didn't mate with the hen. So either a female or a pretty hopeless male. Looking at that photo, it looks pretty obviously a hen. However, I still would like other opinions..also, for a year or two old, isn't the change a bit late? (I know the age based on their leg rings, look at my last post when I got the birds) Edited December 17, 201113 yr by Jen144
December 17, 201113 yr Author Thanks! Would love to hear more opinions on why her cere changed so late...But I kind of kicked myself for a stupid question once I looked at that picture. Obviously a hen..:/
December 17, 201113 yr Agree with SQ on the sexes. Some birds develop late and some birds for whatever reason never brown up and are often non breeders. I think that hen may start to brown up in the cere.
