Hi there, just signed up to this site, and I'm wondering what gender my budgies are. I have two. I had one and then went to get another one about a week later so that she wasn't alone. I asked at the pet store what gender a budgie with a pink cere is, and they said a girl most likely. So, I bought a boy (so they said) .

 

Ive only had them for about 2 or 3 weeks, and since then I've just thought that one was a boy and one was a girl.

 

The one I thought was a girl is Birdo, and she is blue and white. She has a pink cere with a little white around the nostrils.

 

The one I thought was a boy is Yoshi, and he is green and yellow. He has a purpleish blue cere. They are both adorable!

 

Today I saw a strange thing going on which made me think twice on what gender they are. Birdo(the girl) started making little chirping noises, bobbing her head and trying to get on Yoshi (the boy)'s back! I look this up and it said that the MALES do this....so either Birdo is a boy or they're gay? lol, I'm not sure , but I will add photos and I would LOVE to know what the HECK is going on lol.

Birdo The "girl" is a recessive pied MALE

 

Yoshi, the green budgie is also a MALE

 

hey thanks for the reply, just wondering how did you tell that Birdo is a boy? I'm not familiar with budgie genders lol And also, how do you know that Yoshi is a boy?

Your green budgie has a bright blue cere which boy budgies get UNLESS they are recessive pieds. Boy recessive pieds have a pink cere their whole life long.

Apart from that I am usually quite good at sexing budgies

I can sex baby budgies at age 3 days old.

Oh okay! Well, thanks. The pied one is quite young, so do you think that its a girl and it could change to the tan or whatever color a girl is supposed to have? Just wondering because I thought Birdo was a girl the whole time and I just wanna know for sure lol
