December 10, 201113 yr A couple of things I would like to point out. Jimmy Banks mentioned way back that you should have your perches running front to back. And that they should be on opposite sides of the cage, so that the birds can fly back and forth from one to another. The reason for this is that it is part of the budgie mating ritual. The male will make overtures to the female, and then fly away from her, and then back to her. They also both go back and forth. Your birds cant' do this with the way you have the perches right now. So that is one thing you can address to improve your setup. The type of perch you have is also a problem. Thin plastic perches don't offer them a very good grip for when they are mating. It's quite a balancing act, and they need a good stable grip. Wooden perches 12mm in diameter work well, as do natural branches. It's great that you have given us more information. Now that we know you've been moving the location of the cage, I agree with GB. That will absolutely stop them from breeding. We've also learned that your hen suffered an injury a while ago. (I think she's a girl, she's not one of the mutations that give pink ceres in the males.) You said she's fine now. But there is the possibility that an injury might have affected her fertility. I have a hen that recovered from an injury. She bred well before, but now she doesn't. Does the cere on your hen change shades of brown at all? Does it get thick and crusty and then flake off? Those are signs of a hen going in and out of breeding condition. Without them, it is hard to know when is the right time to breed her, or even if she's really a girl. So I hope you're beginning to realize that there is a whole lot more to breeding budgies than you might have thought. Please do as Kaz said, and read up as much as possible on the forum. It's a fun hobby, and it would be nice if you could enjoy it, by knowing what you are doing. If you prepare yourself well, you can avoid a lot of heartache by being able to avoid and or deal with the potential problems. If there was a like button I'd push it. Well put.
December 10, 201113 yr Author well when i got her first she had a brown cere but then it went all crusty and im not sure about that that was a while ago

January 21, 201213 yr Author hi guys im getting a breeding pair of budgies soon so a little tips or something about the babies and things i should be woried about even though there is probably nothing to worry about thanks Edited January 21, 201213 yr by **KAZ**
January 21, 201213 yr you already had a breeding pair Not brought up before but I seriously think you need to change your cage. Vertical cages like that are designed for canaries and finches. Budgies need a wider cage set up so they can fly across it. Your cage with the nestbox up in the "attic" is not ideal. Have you trawled through our faq section yet ?
January 21, 201213 yr Author No I do have a 2 males. We meet a really good budgie breeder and he said that it was a male. And what does a breeding cage look like? do u know And I've looked through the FAQ PLACE. THANKS ANY WAY Edited January 21, 201213 yr by Finnie Your English and shortcuts are very difficult to follow, although I suspect it is just a spelling/typo issue. Please slow down and write legibly.

THANKS ANY WAY Funkypanda, I doubt that you have looked through the FAQ section. If you had, you would have come up with some specific questions, and NOT be saying "even though there is probably nothing to worry about." If you had read up on all the aspects of raising a clutch, you would be aware that there are PLENTY of things that can go wrong, and that you need to worry about in advance. Please don't vaguely ask us for general tips on breeding. That is the same as saying "Please teach me everything all at once right here in this thread." That would be like re-writing the whole fourm. It's all already out there. Look around, read stuff, and then ask for clarification of the parts you don't understand. As for your supposed "male" that this really good budgie breeder told you you had, you stated previously that when you got "him", it had a crusty brown cere, which then flaked off. That tells you it is a FEMALE. Here are some photos of breeding cages. (courtesy of Splat's post) (Courtesy of Daz' post) (courtesy of Kaz' post) You can see that they are rectangular, and wide. The nest box usually attaches on the outside of the cage to leave more room inside for the parents. Funky, the best way to learn about breeding is to spend some time reading the FAQs, and reading threads written by experienced breeders. Learn from how they do things. Do your homework, though. Even if you ask us for tips, and we were to regurgitate everything we know, YOU still have to take the time to read the answers. Please, take the time to read what's already here. January 22, 201213 yr just so u know funky, when taking photos from an ipod, make sure that you don't zoom in, or you get bad quality

March 4, 201213 yr Do you mean his toes are all clawed up or twisted etc. If they are clawed up and he's favouring his leg maybe he has injured it somehow. Check for any injury, see if he's still eating active etc or if he's sitting fluffed up and ill looking.
