Not Playing With Toys

Featured Replies

Pixel is about 6 weeks old now and still hasn't really started playing with the toys in his cage. He likes to go from the top of the cage to the bottom of the cage (right to the floor) and the back up. He is also still not eating the seed out of the feeder at the top of the cage (or the water) and will eat (and drink) from the bottom of the cage. I don't like him doing this because of the obvious health issues with his poo being in his food/water. Should I just stop putting food at the bottom and he'll learn where the feeder is at the top?

Does he look threatened by the feeders and toys? If so, i would say that you should just teach him to trust the toys and feeders... I dunno...

Possibly move the ones in the bottom so they cant get poo in them, and i,d take the toys out if he doesn't use them and put them in at a later date

My bird used to spend a lot of time on the bottom of his cage when he was young too. He eventually began eating properly from his upper feeder- just make sure if you take away the seeds from the bottom that you watch and check he's eating enough.

I think 6 weeks is a bit too young to expect him to play with anything. Is he hand raised or just tame. My chickoo was sold to me as hand raised but i doubt he was. I'd call him more like hand tame when i got him. He was 14 weeks then. Now he's probably 30 weeks old. I have to check. He's only recently started playing with toys and stuff and now having fun doing so too.

I took the bigger toys out of the cage, giving him more room and probably less frightening. He has started to play a little bit with the only toy in the cage and has become a lot more relaxed being around us and out of his cage. Thanks for the suggestions.
