As one of my pairs babies grow, I realize the small nesting box I got them is too small. I got a bigger one, and moved the babies to that one. She ignored them and went back to the old nest.

The old nest was on the inside of the cage, the new one on the outside. Is there any way I can move my budgies to a new nest?I usually get them bigger nests, but this time I was forgetful.

There are five babies now. Is there anything I can do for them if I can't change nests? I don't want growing problems because it's too crowded.

You cannot be changing nests amidst raising of babies, not as drastically as you have. You risk abandonment. If the new nestbox was in the same position in the cage YES but not in a totally different place.

These things must be thought through well before breeding begins. Some people try and use finch baskets and dont think about the size of budgies and babies and wonder why the adults just chew up the baskets.

I dont know how big your nestbox is but it may have to do

OR you will have to put the new nestbox where the old one is. You most certainly dont leave both there or the female will just get confused.

I agree with KAZ, if you have to be changing the nest box I would be removing the existing box altogether and putting your new box in the exact same position after transferring the chicks. The hen is always going to go back to the same spot looking for chicks. If this is not possible then I wouldn't be trying to change things now!

& how big is the old nest box,they don't

I am with Macka on this, just leave them in the original nest box and where it was orginally placed. Is it one of those nest boxes you buy from the pet shop, they are small and the hole is low but plenty of room, chicks like to scrunch up together.

There has been no info as yet as to what size the original nestbox is.....do you have a picture ? and whats the update ?
