Posted May 17, 200519 yr Hi one of my birds hatched out a chick and it fell to the back of the nest box where there was a knot of wood missing i knew the knot of wood was missing but being a nivice breeder did not think this would matter as i thought the chicks would stay in the dip. My female must have knocked the chick to the back and it fell down the hole. I found it by chance it was cold but still alive so i put it with my other hen who is rearing two chicks one 8 days old and one 6 days old. I fed it some milk and the hen seemed to accept it. It hatched at (.03 approx GMT and the time is now 11.20 pm GMT i think it is still alive but do not want to check as my hen should be sleeping now. I changed the nestblock at 8.30pm GMT. It was till alive then. Could anybody tell me how long they survive without being fed after hatching. I am worried i will wakeup tommorrow to find it dead. It is the only chick from my first budgie Jack who is my pet and talks it means a lot to me to keep it alive. Cna anyone advise please?
May 18, 200519 yr if it is really bothering you wake the mother up, she would be able to live with a rude awaking in the night. For something important like this. Did you see the foster mom feed it at all? is there any sound coming from the box?
