November 13, 201113 yr I'm pretty sure my dads got the same plant. If so then yes. It doesn't have a little tag?
November 13, 201113 yr I'm pretty sure my dads got the same plant. If so then yes. It doesn't have a little tag? Little tags come with plants bought at a nursery...not branches from the park or elsewhere
November 13, 201113 yr Author Yes sorry Taylor, no tags - this comes from one of my hubby's foraging missions. I am not sure about the leaves, they look a bit wide and dark green ....
November 13, 201113 yr Scrunch up the leaves and have a smell, you can usually smell if it has a strong eucalyptus smell or not.
November 13, 201113 yr that's what I was thinking twisted. lol. When I go looking in the park , which by the way is totally against the law I scrunch and smell and then saw and hope no one sees me. Edited November 13, 201113 yr by splat
November 14, 201113 yr Scrunch up the leaves and have a smell, you can usually smell if it has a strong eucalyptus smell or not. Agree with Twisted... This will give you 100% of an answer!
November 14, 201113 yr Author Thanks for the tip! I scrunched up the leaves and NO eucalyptus smell. Tragedy averted.
November 14, 201113 yr Thanks for the tip! I scrunched up the leaves and NO eucalyptus smell. Tragedy averted. I have the same plant, and have given it to the birds. Does it have a kind of plastic sheen to it? topside only..
November 14, 201113 yr Author I have the same plant, and have given it to the birds. Does it have a kind of plastic sheen to it? topside only.. Yes. it is very glossy in the top side. But I have decided not to risk it and hubby is off on another foraging mission determined to get 100% eucalyptus from now on.
November 14, 201113 yr Author Better safe than sorry I always think. Precisely! Get it wrong and it just doesn't bear thinking about the consequences, does it? New branches have arrived and the birds were straight into them!
November 14, 201113 yr Better safe than sorry I always think. Precisely! Get it wrong and it just doesn't bear thinking about the consequences, does it? New branches have arrived and the birds were straight into them! The branches are completely safe though?
November 14, 201113 yr Sorry, I couldn't see a hand holding it or something like that. I looked it up afterwards and yeah it wasn't a eucalyptus, but it was getting late and I forgot to post in the morning. I think though I've given my birds that and no probs
November 14, 201113 yr Author The branches are completely safe though? I dunno. I was hoping someone would identify them and then if they were on the "safe list" I would have gone ahead and given them to my birds. But no one did. So I didn't.
November 15, 201113 yr Did the leaves smell really strongly? I have a gum tree that doesn't smell like an eucalypt at all - it has a super strong smell to it, and it looks exactly like those leaves and branches you've posted.
