Posted November 8, 201113 yr I have two cinamon wing just out of the breeding box and the male is attacking them. He has been okay up until now. He is jumping on one of their backs as if he is trying to breed with it. Have I got a pedofile and do I take him away. He doesnt seem to be attacking them with his beak . Help please.
November 8, 201113 yr Are there other chicks in nest box or only the two fledged chicks? Sometimes the males get a bit "pushy" with newly fledged chicks, I think they see them more as adults than their chicks once they are out of box. If he isn't really aggressive with them, they may be okay with a careful eye on them. Is he still feeding them now they are out of nestbox?

I have taken him away for a while and am about to put him back. Will the hen feed them on her own.

How old are your fledged chicks? Are they fully feeding on their own or is either parent still feeding them? If they are totally feeding themselves they may be safer in a kindy cage rather than with parents. Are you cage or colony breeding?

Hi Doggie, Dad usually feeds etc after fledging, shame he's being a pain. Mum could feed them to save hand feeding them. If you check to see they have food in their crops and see if Mum is on the job first, it would save a lot of work. Hope this helps.
November 12, 201113 yr If they are old enough to come out of the nest box, I don't think you will have any luck getting them to take a hand feeding from you. You haven't yet said their actual age. If they are out of the nest box, and you have taken away the father, then just take away the box, too, and leave them with their mother. Even if she doesn't feed them anymore, they will learn to eat by copying her. And with no mate and no box, the mom is probably safe with them. When I have a large clutch that is fledging, I put half the babies with the father, and half with the mother (no boxes in either cage). This seems to work fine.
