Posted November 7, 201113 yr Hi! I have as some of you know 6 budgies in my aviary outside, 4 of which are paired and very happy. But the other two aren't. They don't hate each other, they just bicker a bit. I would like to of course have them paired together, but I can't always have everything go to plan. I'm thinking of maybe next year buying 2 more budgies to be paired with my two that haven't got mates. My cock, fern, is a Cinnamon, Grey-green. And my hen, poppy, is a dominant pied, sky blue, opaline, cinnamon. I would like to know what mutation would best go with each of them. My cobalt violet factor cock was meant to breed with poppy and I was told those 2 would make some visual violets. Would a cobalt be sutiable for poppy? Would it have to have violet factor? What about any other mutation? My cock, fern, was meant to breed with my light green opaline hen. I really like Lacewings and i've heard somewhere that cinnamon can help with the marking of them. Would a lacwing be suitable for fern? if so, a white lacewing or yellow lacewing. What about any other mutations? Any info would really help as Ive tried searching for ideas but get a bit confused with exactly why eg, a) budgie, would get paired with b ) budgie. Thanks, Tay Lol, sorry. I also really like the Texas Clearbody variety. (I think its TCB?) Would poppy or fern go well with a TCB? Edited November 7, 201113 yr by Taylor
November 7, 201113 yr you have stated two sex linked gene, lacewing and TCB, if you really want them in your flock fast then you would be best matching Poppy to a TCB as that pairing would give your TCB hens and males split. the fact Poppy is a dominant pied might not mix well with the TCB gene, due to lost of markings on the wings and patched body colour, but it depends what gene you want most in your flock if you used a TCB hen (or even a lacewing) with Fern all you can get is split males.
November 8, 201113 yr Author Oh thanks nerwen! What would you suggest then for fern? Are you saying for a lacewing to work it would have to be lacewing cock x cinnom hen? What TCB colour would you suggest for poppy, Yellow or white?
