Bonding Pair

Featured Replies

I have two budgies that i want to become a bonded pair but I'm not sure how to do it. I have all my birds in the aviary along with the two birds, do i separate them in a separate cage or let them be and hope they pair up. Would i remove any other males that she might bond with? The male i want to bond was born in my aviary and is 2 years old and i bought the female who is about a year old. The male hasn't bonded with any other female in the aviary so I'm sure he won't pick any of the females but the female i bought is new and might choose a male who is 8 years or one that i don't want to mate with. So what should i do? I've never forced a bond before, i always let them choose their own mate.

Also if they do bond, make sure they don't get to far ahead with themselves and breed. If the hen is about one year she could be under, and you shouldn't breed with any under one year.

If she is over than she is okay.

Alright thank you both for responding. I will seperate them in hopes that they will bond and i wont provide a nest for at least a few more months. Will it be okay if they can see the and hear the other birds in the aviary? Or should i place the cage far away from the aviary? :)

If you are going to breed them then it is much better for them to hear the other birds chatting away. So keep them near..

If you want a certain pair to breed but there in a aviary you can just place the 2 you want to breed in a separate cage for a couple of weeks until you see them feeding each other or kissing each other and then you could put them back in your aviary to breed.

Hello. There are too many variables for this to be a guaranteed method of breeding, to list here. Better as

suggested to separate, within earshot or sight, Nest box when both are in condition & compatible.Yours B.J.
