Posted November 2, 201113 yr One of my budgies eggs are dented, the dent is about 10mm big. Im not sure if the membrane is still in taked and the baby seems to be growing there are veins and a big red spot and there doesn't seem to be any air bubbles. Im afraid that air will get in though and kill the baby, the baby is around 5 days old. Is there anything i can use to cover the dent so it doesn't get worse. Its so sad because her first two died in shell (it had a red ring of blood), because right now we are doing renovations in the house and she gets scared and rustles the eggs.
November 2, 201113 yr I have heard that if there is a small hole, you can use a tiny dab of clear nail polish to seal it, and that could save the chick. But if you have a dent, with no hole, then I think it is just a matter of wait and see. I wouldn't hold out much hope, though. Whatever caused the dent might have addled the egg and put a stop to any further development. Maybe candle again in a few days to see what it looks like. But if you are continually upsetting the hen, and she is addling her eggs, then even if the chick is alive now, it might not survive three more weeks of this. It might be best to put breeding on hold until the disruptions are over, and then try again.

Ya its just a dent, so i will check in a few days, i use a small reading light to check the eggs i think the lights is led because its white and bright is that okay? The renovations are over soon, she has 5 eggs and the last two look okay so far, one has a small red speck so its growing and the other is too early to tell she might lay more so fingers crossed.
November 15, 201113 yr I had a hens claw pierce the egg and have blood come out and i cut the sticky part of a bandaid of and it hatched, surprised me
November 17, 201113 yr Author Sadly it didn't make it, i was going to get some nail polish but it died before i could use it. Next time i will be prepared and maybe will use a bandaid like the previous poster said. I got no babies from that clutch, i think a lot of it had to do with all the noise from the renovations sadly. Im going to do a second clutch after new years when all the holiday madness is over and i can concentrate on the birds more and give the birds a little break.

That's bad luck, after things settle and worst of summer heat is gone you may have better luck.
