Made this on Sunday with the help of my hubby. He made it clear he only helped cos he didn't want me damaging his tools. Aargh. Both budgies are very excited. Coco is settling down too and isn't really grumpy today. She's not been very mean to Cheekoo but i have to keep an eye on both. Their favourite bit is the swinging ladder and the rope wall. I am planning on making more toys as i got for the top 2 levels.

 

I have on tiny little problem. I used masonite wood for the floors and they are very slippery. Any idea how to make it more rough. I was thinking of sprinkling grits /shells sorta thing but how to stick it to the floor.

 

 

 

 

 

That's great Budgieowner! Makes mine look very insignificant, in comparison. But I did only have my 12 year old to help make sure my uprights were straight!

 

Don't know what you do about your slippery decks. The birds probably won't spend too much time on them anyway.

That looks amazing. I can't believe you made that, looks as though your budgies love it. Wish I was handy in some way.

I've used sisal rope mostly but also cotton rope. I made sure the sisal rope was natural untreated. Got it from bunnings. I had to unravel it to be able to use it as it was thick. It's really good for making knots. Also used unbleached cotton rope. Didn't find this very handy but still better then other types.

I'd get some carpet off cuts and stick that down... Their poo is usually pretty solid and easily removed and if you attach it with velcro you can remove for cleaning. You could also use some of that corrugated cardboard and replace as needed.

Thanks. The carpet idea is good. I have some left over commercial carpet which i can use.

No way i am making this again. As much as it was fun it was hard work. Unless someone pays me like $250+ it's not worth it. The effort and cleaning up after. Materials and the planning are all hard work. Anyhow i am thinking of making another one in the near future but only of natural wood mainly gumtree and eucalyptus branches only. Same layout but natural wood only. Even the floor. Better start looking for good straight even pieces of wood then to add to my collection.

For the rope ladder i used sisle strings. First i made a knot at one end, then i wove beads through the string. Next i did a loop kind of a knot and slid the dowel through it and tightened it, more beads and then another dowel and it went on.

 

As for the net, i used cotton rope but i would redo it again with sisle rope as it stays put. I wove through some beads through it but next time i'll do natural wood pieces and bells through them.

PS: Be careful with the size of the grids. Make it large enough for the bird to pass through. If you make it too small the birds might get strangled in these.
