Letting Kenny Out

Featured Replies

I let Kenny out for the first time yesterday , a friend of mine brought his budgie round for the day so we let them both fly free in the room - was lovely to see & hear . My friends bird went back today but Kenny seemed very happy to be free, singing away. I have put him back in his cage now - by holding the cage up for him to jump into . I'm intending to let him fly free in the room all the time eventually when I have him hand tamed but just going to let him out for a few hours for the time being. Does it matter what time of day I was to let him out?

The time of day doesn't really matter, however, if he's not finger tame yet, best let him out just before breakfast or dinner. That way he'll want to go back to the cage to eat.

Budgies usually eat in the morning and late afternoon/evening. Their rest time in nature is in the heat of the day.

If you keep up the finger taming training regularly - several times a day for about 5/10mins - you should be able to hand tame him reasonably quickly.
