And one other question could she possibly give me 1 last clutch? I could foster the eggs if so, i,ve heard that it is possible haha, you have to wait until people come online to help Most people will be out and about on a Sunday. But I could possibly help you out. Firstly, are you sure she's old? Purple rings were issued for the September 2010 to September 2011 breeding season - so she could in fact be coming up to a year old or already be a year old OR if it's an old ring - then she'd be at least 6 so definitely no breeding for her. Any older than 4 is unwise to breed a hen What are the code details on the ring? In regards to showing - I don't see anything wrong with showing an older bird - if they have the looks, then why not? As long as she is in good health etc, it shouldn't be a problem.
October 23, 201113 yr purple rings were either 2005 or last year. Is she 2005 0r 2011? Secondly, this is a bird you bought right? I know the rules vary from state to state, but in NSW I thought you were only able to show birds you yourself has bred. Why would you want to show a bird someone else had bred? If she is a 2005 bird she is way to old to breed and if you make facilities available for her to breed, she may well try, but it may well kill her. I would not use as a foster parent either, as she is too old. If she is a 2005 bird just enjoy her and provide for her a good life for the time she has left. If she is a 2011 bird, she might need be old enough to breed. Try to find out when she was bred, as in month. I would not breed her until at least September next year, that way you know she is at least 12 months old.

October 23, 201113 yr Noone should sell a 6 yr old hen on the possibility she can be bred with...........she should be FREE and not sold to breed with....that part made plain and clear Next time you take money to buy birds, pay more attention to age of any hens you buy. I hope she was free and you didnt pay for her ??

I hope she was free and you didnt pay for her ?? Sorry Kaz i should have stated she was free with her 5yo breeding partner, they havent been bred for 4 years though, just a quick question what age should a cock be bred to?
October 23, 201113 yr A cock can be bred older.....they are still breedable at around 7 yrs plus, but most show breeders dont as by the time they get that old the style of the budgie we are showing has changed and the older cockbird wouldnt be improving your show birds all that much unless he is a real cracker Also it would be harder on an old cockbird to keep up with the demands of hen and chicks the older they get. PS as far as showing a purple ringer goes......here in W.A. a novice or beginner may show bought birds for the first 12 months of showing. It gives a newbie a way of getting interested in showing, getting an eye for selecting the right birds, giving the newbie a direction and enthusiasm and allowing them the first 12 months to breed their own bird for showing. October 23, 201113 yr Author I'm not squeak-crumble, but you're welcome Sorry amy, my mistake dont know how i did that I would be a bit worried about thew bit about, she barks like a Corgi. There may be a problem. She grew up around them and i think she just she mimics them, she whistles fine, but sometimes sometimes she barks, like 3 or 4 times and has whistles in between barks, it's kind of like she learn't to bark instead of talk Edited October 23, 201113 yr by **KAZ**
