hen eating egg!

Featured Replies

I have a pair of birds that had 5 eggs in nest box and all seamed fine until i checked the box this morning and all 5 eggs were eaten!! the first was due to hatch in2 days time. i only handled eggs once that was yesterday to check if they were fertile would this make the hen destroy them?Only one was fertile the rest being clear. Is it okay the let them breed again for a second round or would it be better to split them up? Will they do this again and was it my fault? I feel really annoyed with myself for checking them . I picked them up and held towards a torch .Is this the right way?? Any ideas??

I don't think you did anything wrong it's just that some budgies can get upset eaiser than others. Also you said that only 1 was fertile so she probably new that the others were not and has eaten them. The 1 that was fertile, may have died.

It is all a big QUESTION and very sad for you. You should let them have a 2nd round and see how you go.

How old are they?

Good luck and keep us posted. :P
