Posted October 22, 201113 yr I confused he is grey or mauve. This is female. This couple produces 3 babies. That don't have any grey. The eldest The second The third Edited October 22, 201113 yr by hans
October 22, 201113 yr To tell if your cock is mauve or grey, I would look at his cheek patches, to see if they are grey or violet. But, since he's a spangle, it may be hard to see the color of his cheek patches. Statistically speaking, if he were a single factor grey, three non-grey chicks isn't really enough to rule out his being grey. And with that hen, if he were mauve, all the chicks would have one or two dark factors, which yours appear to be. But again, it could take 4,5,6 (or more, you get the point) before you got a sky blue chick to disprove mauve. Not to mention that he could be a mauve AND a grey I'm sorry, I'm not turning out to be much help, am I? But at least try to see what color his cheek patches are to start with.
October 23, 201113 yr Author Thanks, Finnie. It seems to me his cheek patches are grey & silver. October 23, 201113 yr Cock is grey.........hen appears violet but pale so does she have cinnamon markings ? Chicks opaline like the mother so Dad must be split opaline also. Edited October 23, 201113 yr by **KAZ**
October 23, 201113 yr I agree with KAZ that the cock is grey and the hen looks violet. I think the second chick could be a violet grey
October 23, 201113 yr Author Thanks, KAZ & Neville. The mother doesn't have cinnamon markings. Today, the second chick came out of the nestbox. The second chick is a opaline spangle violet cobalt. The cock seems to be a spangle grey violet. Edited October 23, 201113 yr by hans
October 23, 201113 yr Author The hen is the same as the eldest. My bet is the hen is actually cinnamon as well.
October 24, 201113 yr In the first picture the cock seems to be carrying violet noticeable on the head and wings. Could it be mauve ?

My bet is the hen is actually cinnamon as well. I agree - I believe hen is cinnamon too - she has the pink feet and legs - as does the eldest chick
October 24, 201113 yr The hen is a violet opaline spangle Violet Cinnamon Opaline Spangle I agree - I believe hen is cinnamon too - she has the pink feet and legs - as does the eldest chick That is what gives it away. If she was normal spangle, I believe they would be grey? The Cinnamon markings are hidden byt he pied effect from the spangling, and then the opaline affect. I had a hen identical to yours. Your cock bird must also be split cinnamon.
October 24, 201113 yr Author Um....you're right. It seems the hen is a cinnamon opaline spangle violet. Edited October 24, 201113 yr by hans
