October 17, 201113 yr They look like they are going to really good Dan, well done, are they from Petes birds or where you bought the other from.
October 17, 201113 yr Author Thanks people, yeah they aren't too bad for my first 3 rung birds. I think I was fortunate in the stock that I have manage to collect. I know the features that i was looking for and was able to get stock from people who i have known for a while and got pointed in the right direction from breeders in the know. Getting a good start can save a lot of wasted time and heartache. First 2 birds are from a PT - Blizzard pairing. I have 7 out of that nest and it looks like it will be a really nice consistent nest. I can see that the next couple feathering up look okay as well. Look to have size and directional feather. Both parents are showy and good in the wing and back so I am confident that these guys will be solid birds. The grey is out of a Gary Armtsrong cock that I got at a fire sale and a Tevelein family hen. There is five in the nest and the grey pictured is the oldest, the next couple of siblings don't have his width or size. He is a big budgie. I will wait to see his outline and wings but he could be a real good budgie. This pairing was put together to produce some big normals, but this bird has surprised me with it's feather. I have had some disasters as well with a prolapsed hen, egg eaters and the odd clear round, but it's part of dealing with new birds and figuring them out. It's a lot of fun at the moment. It's nice to be starting up again with half a clue. Edited October 17, 201113 yr by fordmob
October 17, 201113 yr I have a couple of Rons birds here from his National winning birds , half brothers from memory, I bought them at the Bendigo auction, The best one I bought for the length of mask. Both light green cocks.
October 17, 201113 yr Author I have a couple of Rons birds here from his National winning birds , half brothers from memory, I bought them at the Bendigo auction, The best one I bought for the length of mask. Both light green cocks. The Blizzard hen is visually just a bird, which I got for $30. But she is a breeding machine, she laid a clutch of 13 eggs. I knew that she would have some breeding behind her. So far they all look like keepers. The Armstrong bird looks to be pre-potent. I have 2 of his sons already which i bought at the same time and they are very nice. I will develop a line around him. They throw the feather out from the cere laterally and forward. I can see that the big grey chick will do the same thing.
October 17, 201113 yr I was unluckily, Ron's bird went for a lot at the Bendigo auction, there was one that I was after but a breeder put his card up and it stayed up, he was getting that bird no matter what. But I paid $160 for the best cock and $80 for the other. When you go to Ron's his birds start at $100. so I did okay and because they are from family of his National bird winner I thought why not. I have 3 little chicks from the best one at the moment, I lost all the chicks from the other one but at least they both fill eggs.

November 9, 201113 yr Author They are looking good Dan. Thanks Julie. All of the good ones are opaline or op cinn at this stage but I don'y care. It was all about trying to breed some quality this season. The opaline grey green just above could be something really special. Still yet to see it stand properly as it is still a bub but all six of it's siblings have good wing and stance so I am hopeful. Easily the best bird I have ever bred and by a long way. Some of these good ones can be sooks when they fledge as you know so let's hope he is okay. He seems like a spirited little fella.
November 9, 201113 yr Some nice bird pics in your photobucket... I like the surf picture also...Where is the location ?

You can tell he is young Dan because of the way he is sitting on the perch. He looks great though really glad you are getting some quality birds. I to don't care what I get as long as they are good. lol. Last night we had a meeting and one of our members brought some babies along and this guy is a beginners and wow did he have some crackers, one in particular a grey hen , boy I wish she was mine, a big solid hen with beautiful wings and heaps of feather and a die for head with plenty of lift and blow, I reckon she would give my sky a beating. And he also had a lovely yellow face sky I think or cobalt can't remember and nearly just as good. Just the directional feather is to die for.
