I'm going to attempt to build a perch/play gym for Chicken-Hawk and was wondering how other members assembled theirs? Did you use wood glue, wood screws or nails?

Hi Captzork,

I recently built my first proper playgym this month, I used wood glue and non toxic pvc glue to glue it, and I used pvc, lemon branches, non toxic pine base, wheels and screws. Just be as creative as you can and you'll think of something, as I did mine without a plan :) best of luck for you

I'm going to be adding some bells to the gym, and was at Michael's(craft store in town) and they had silver and gold bells. I was wondering if these bells would be safe for Chicken-Hawk?

Are they like cow bells? Cuz they're the best ones to get for bird toys, because as far as I know, all the other types risk harming Chicken-Hawk. You might wanna check what they're made of and post on here, but I'm no expert with toxic stuff for birds, I just do a google search and HEY PRESTO

I used hot glue gun glue on mine. That's on advice from my vet and vet nurse who is really up on that sort of thing. They didn't recommend PVC glues. Otherwise stainless steel screws were my next option.

Again stainless steel is the only safe way to go with the bells. Anything else and you will be throwing the out after a short time, as soon as they start to rust. My parrot shop has stainless steel bells for birds. Stainless steel is a bit more expensive but cheaper than a dead bird from heavy metal poisoning or replacing other metal bells frequently.

Where I put the pvc glue can't come in contact with the birds, it was just to stick the pvc pipe together :)

Oh, By The Way I had a call from my cousin, he asked if the connectors were okay to use, they're perfect, if you've got the correct sized perches.

Hey well done, Captzork.

Just watch out for those bits of loose string and cut them off pronto. Chicken-hawk could easily get either her feet or neck tangled up in there in a flash. It's a sure strangling hazard.

As soon as I saw that and took the photo, I took the cotton cord away.

Nice Job :) I have a good idea on what you should do to modify it when/if you make another one, (because it will be torn to pieces). Before you attach it all together, die the pieces of wood with food colouring to make it so much cooler and more attractive to your birdy :)
