When I Get My Budgie...

Featured Replies

Hey guys, next holidays (xmas holidays), I'm gonna be getting a budgie (handreared or not). So what I was wondering, is when it bonds with me, what tricks should I teach it?

I was thinking these:

  • Shake
  • Lift Wings
  • Ring toss
  • Basketball
  • Sk8ing
  • Some air routines
  • Vampire (when they hang upside down on a perch)
  • Flip
  • Play dead
  • Dance
  • Wiggle (pretty much the same as dance)
  • Come to me wherever in house
  • Backflip
  • Bow
  • Talking
  • Talking on a command ("Can he talk?" 'I can talk, can you fly?'

Any other suggestions would be awesome, also, it would be great if someone could tell me how to teach the budgie to do these tricks ;) thx

Well... I've got a giant cage and a small one ;) The giant one is one of those hexagonal cages, and the small one is a rectangle except with a curved top (I'm sure you know what I mean).

I want to bond with the bird first, so I'm thinking of keeping it in the small cage, and then when it knows I'm not to be feared, I'll transfer to the large one.

(The large one's an outside, small one's an inside)

okyear small one firt i think and while you are teaching it tricks

ps what are you going to teach it

Just do a few little training sessions everyday for 10-15 minutes as you don't want to confuse, his or hers brain.

I love your list of ideas, but I don't see step up?

It's a basic trick that will help with the process of some of the other tricks so I would suggest teaching it that 1st.

Can't wait to see some pics!

Lol, also don't know about the air routines, hes/she's not at the Red Bull air show!

Yeah, I know. Step-up's the most basic trick ever so I didn't add it as I would presume you guys would make the assumption that I'd teach it that first :)

And for the air routines, it won't be much, just summersaults :) not too hard ;) Oh, and i just thought of another thing, ROLL OVER XD

okay, so now I'm wondering what I should feed my budgie first, I want it to maintain a healthy diet, I'm thinking that its diet should be 20% Seeds, 20% Pellets, 25% Fruit and 35% Vegetables.

Is that a good diet?

haha

and i have no idear if that is a good diet sounds good to me

You should have seeds available at all times, and fruits and vegetables as frequent supplements.

My budgies have fruit or veg everyday.

Be careful as watery veg like lettuce can sometimes upset them. No nutrition just water.

Also wash them before feeding. There could be chemicals unless there organic with no pesticides.

Good luck!
