I'm planning on making a large budgie cage (the size of the ones with the perches on top if you know what I mean by that),and what I'm thinking of doing, is with the removable tray, having some sort of seed growing in it, so the birdies have something fresh to eat opinions would be great

Plant bird seed Just be prepared for it to be trashed. It wont take long once they discover it. If you have a few trays on the go you can swap them around when needed.

 

Also not sure if you meant you'd plant in the tray at the bottom where the birds poo, but I'd have smaller little tray's or containers for the seeds. The bottom tray would need to be cleaned often and I wouldn't want my 'food tray' covered in lots of poo (although they often poo in their seed too)

Just in case you were wondering for size, I'm planning 1m height and width and 2m length okay, so I suppose it could go by the name of a small aviary

I suggest you grow your plants in little pots and put them into the cage on occasions and not have it growing down the bottom. Moisture needed to keep it growing can be a cause of disease in budgies and its something you dont want happening.

Pots of seeding grass in and out of the cage........easier, less propensity for diseases like coccidiosis.

 

Cage ? Wooden ? Budgies chew wood.

What kind did you have in mind ? Sometimes cheaper and easier to buy a good rectangular flight cage.

okay, so I'll have it standing so the budgies don't completely demolish the seeds... I'm thinking some sort of really really strong and hard wood, but I'm gunna put stainless steel around it, the wood is just for the frame, I know I could just build the frame with stainless steel, but I like wood
