Posted October 12, 201113 yr Hi, Is it necessery for budgies to mate many times to get fertilized eggs in the clutch or only one mating is enough? I am doing colony breeding due to lack of space and other males always disturb the mating, so many of the matings are unsuccessful. I can put the question in this way too. Mating once will fertelize one egg or the whole eggs that will be laid later on. Thanks,

The Search option is your friend, use it and it will reward you with a wealth of information. I appreciate this may not be the answer you were hoping for but generally speaking when nobody posts a reply to your topic it is a pretty good indicator that it is a much asked question and they don't want to repeat themselves However ..... Budgies mate all the time prior to laying, not every mating is successful and will fertilize an egg.
October 13, 201113 yr One mating can fertilize a whole clutch because the hen can store the sperm but usually more frequent mating is more successful
October 13, 201113 yr Author Renee - In these forums people should be encouraged to ask. One mating can fertilize a whole clutch because the hen can store the sperm but usually more frequent mating is more successful Thanks Nev.
