Posted October 11, 201113 yr Seeing as no-one has commented in my questions in my breeding journal, I will just post here. Are these chicks clearwings or dilutes? Very Interesting chick.....very. My only violet birds are the opaline sky cock/clearbody X violet opaline clearbody. So all chick are opaline, and either clearbody or split. This chick is....like a grey bird. With violet. Violet Grey Clearbody....but the wings are almost opaline spangle looking? Or Dilute? I just said it could have only come from my Sky Blue Opaline/Clearbody Cock X Violet Opaline Clearbody Hen BUT I found this chick How am I getting grey violet's? My only other clearbody pair I have down is a light green opaline cock X grey-green violet opaline hen. Edited October 11, 201113 yr by Squeak_Crumble
October 11, 201113 yr There probably not grey , they are more likely mauve. I think that top photo is more dilute than clear wing because it looks the same colour all over, if it was a clear wing the body colour should be much brighter Edited October 11, 201113 yr by splat
October 11, 201113 yr Author There probably not grey , they are more likely mauve. It is like a violet bird, with a grey wash over them, some feathers violet, some grey. I will try and get a better picture. They are like grey birds - Edited October 11, 201113 yr by Squeak_Crumble
October 11, 201113 yr Still reckon mauve. oops the throats spots look grey. Well you have me bluffed. Edited October 11, 201113 yr by splat
October 11, 201113 yr Author Anyone else? Is it possible to have a violet grey bird? If so, who would the parents be?
October 11, 201113 yr The chicks look like dilutes to me. Violet & grey will combine on the same bird
October 12, 201113 yr Author The chicks look like dilutes to me. Violet & grey will combine on the same bird Thanks Neville. Any idea's on the Clearbody looking one?
October 12, 201113 yr light green opaline cock X grey-green violet opaline hen do you know if these birds can be split blue? that could give you the grey-violet chicks Edited October 12, 201113 yr by *Nerwen*
October 12, 201113 yr Author light green opaline cock X grey-green violet opaline hen do you know if these birds can be split blue? that could give you the grey-violet chicks I don't know about the cock, the hen comes from a Violet Opaline Clearbody X Grey-Green Opaline Clearbody. So then hen could be.
October 13, 201113 yr Possible to have a dilute with wing markings modified by clearwing if you have both clearwing and dilute in the breeding. I've bred a few myself out of my clearwings. They look for all the world like clearwing dilutes (but of course you can't actually have the two genes visable at the same time). After much discussion and gnashing of teeth it was explained to me that it is actually a dilute (genetically) but has wing modifiers of a clearwing making the wings very very marking free (depending on how good your clearwings are in the first place though). BUT WAIT. Just been looking at the bird again. Is that a single smudgy brownish wing marking I see in the top photo? Can we get some close ups of wings and ANY markings that might be on them as well as tail? I like splat think that the violet grey is acutally a mauve. So patchy a colouring is typical of mauve but not grey and the cheek patches are not a typical grey either.
October 13, 201113 yr I think your clearwings are dilutes. I am not a clearwing breeder so I could be wrong here, but I am sure that to get a clearwing, you need to put a clearwing to a clearwing. If you put a clearwing to a normal, you get a normal/clearwing. Breeders found out that you could breed a clearwing to a dilute and get clearwings/dilute. If you breed a clearwing/dilute to a clearwing/dilute, 25% of the offspring should be visually dilutes. Now, we know that 25% is the mathematical percentage, however in this nestbox you could have 2 dilutes and 0 clearwing/dilutes. Does that make sense?
October 14, 201113 yr Author I don't really mind as much about these dilute/clearwings, it was really the clearbody/opaline look one I was wondering about. Here are some more pictures.
October 17, 201113 yr Seeing as no-one has commented in my questions in my breeding journal, I will just post here. Are these chicks clearwings or dilutes? October 17, 201113 yr Author When enlarged does this birds cheek patches look spangle? I will need to check, but I don't think they have any. Also RIP, are all of the birds dilute clearbodies? or just the yellows?
December 28, 201113 yr Author Does anyone still know what these chicks are? I am really looking into the dilute/clearwings, as I have sold one bird and kept his brother (both were cocks) to use for pet breeding, because I want to get some rainbow's . I have come to the conclusion that the violet is a violet spangle opaline clearbody...no clue were the spangle came from.... now that I think about it though, wouldn't he only have pink feet is he is a cinnamon? And whatever the clearwing thing is, he is spangle as well
