Swapping Aviaries?

Currently, these are the aviaries I own

RIMG0245.jpg

The one on the right is used for my show budgies, it's 1.7L , 1.4W , 1.7H

The one on the right has cockatiels and pet budgies in it. It is a hexagon shape, with every side being .7 . It is 1.7H at lowest roof line.

having the cockatiel's and budgie's together is a bit squeezy. I really would like a bigger avairy for them, but have not had the money so far. I think if I sell these two aviaries, I would have enough to purchase this one I found on gumtree.

It is alot higher, at 2.4m high. It is split in two, so one section is 1.75 L , 1.8W.

I have yet to contact seller about pickup, transport etc. and ask my dad, but what is everyone's idea on it?

Well, even though I had no replies, I went ahead and bought the aviary :) Tommorrow will be very exciting, I am getting the aviary. It will be a bit of a rush, BUT I will hopefully move all birds AND get the aviary setup in two days! :D I have no idea how it is all going to work, I will get there though. Birds will need to be crammed into 5 in a breeding cage, and my 3 flight cages being quite cramped. It will only be overnight though. I have about 50 or so budgies, with 5 breeding cages spare. If I can fit 5 in each, that's 25. maybe another 10 or so in a flight cage, and I have a couple other cages in the shed. My 5 cockatiels will need to go in seperate flight cages.....Cages everywere! But it's only overnight. Wish me luck!

I think the new aviary looks great. Good luck with the move, hope you get it all done quickly. What sort of flooring do you have where the new aviary is going to sit.

As you can see, the aviaries are on a slope. I don't think it will sit flat. What I really wanted to do, was get 4 sleepers (wood) and put them in a rectangle. Sit the aviary on them, and fill the inside with gravel/dirt. This though, is going to cost alot of money to fill. I think what I am going to do, is still get the four sleepers (5 including division I guess). If mice start coming through, then I will need to find the money to fill in with dirt or gravel.

If mice start coming through, then I will need to find the money to fill in with dirt or gravel.

IF ? Dont give them the opportunity.......make sure whatever you use stops mice getting in. You will find cement slabs get given away fairly regularly. There's also flat tin you can get from signwriters...............old used signs, and mousemesh you buy by the metre.

If it means leaving the birds where they are for awhile to you get it right then thats what you will have to do. If you take shortcuts now its a whole lot more troublesome to fix it later or to take the time later.

PS nice aviary.......sizewise....how much more space are you getting if any ? Its really only two spaces around 6 foot by 6 foot........are you keeping any of your existing aviaries too ?

Could I use pet-safe/security fly screen? that stuff is pretty darn strong. I don't have the money for a cement slab, trust me, that would be ideal! The place where the aviaries sit is pretty solid rock/dirt. The aviaries I have now in the same place have been there for at least a year with no mice coming through.

I will be gaining alot of space. The length for my budgies is the same, and they are gaining another 40cm in width. they are also gaining an extra half a meter in height. My cockatiels and pet budgies have the biggest gain, the cockatiels have been quite squishy in the green aviary.

I said cement slabs, not a slab.......cement slabs are often given away. They measure two foot by two foot ( 60cms by 60cms )

Bit of a gap, we put some mesh along it to keep escapee's from going back and forth! It has worked for a while, I have one cheeky tcb that has got through a few times though
