Posted October 8, 201113 yr Finally I have been able to start my birdroom build. After a long wet winter, the ground dried up enough to begin the slab. My birds have lived for a few months in a flight cage and i can't wait to finish the birdroom and aviary. I only keep a small number of birds so as not to stress them out in the flight cage. Cleared out an area of 4 mt x 4 mt and boxed it up on Friday. Was really surprised how far I had to build it up, as it looked pretty level with the naked eye. Poured the concrete Sat morning, was praying for no rain and had a really good morning.
October 8, 201113 yr Looks great, that is a 1mt x 1mt bigger than mine, I would of loved to have mine that size.
October 8, 201113 yr Author Around 2 pm the rain came down but the slab was finished so out came the tarps. Hoping for some good weather next weekend so I can put up the shed that will be my new birdroom. Looks great, that is a 1mt x 1mt bigger than mine, I would of loved to have mine that size. Yeah can't wait Splat, shed is 3.75 x 3.75 although not high wall. Would have preferred a higher wall and roof but the shed was a good price. I intend to line it out and living in Tassie the weather doesn't get too hot. I had a 3 mt x 3 mt shed a few years ago and the extra .75 mt all around makes a huge difference. October 8, 201113 yr Looks fantastic !! You know if you want a higher roofline all you have to do is either a couple of rows of bricks to set it on or some lower metal panels made in the same way as the walls of your shed and then attach the shed higher up. Doors are easy enough to reset or use a step through.
October 8, 201113 yr Author Thanks Kaz, I will think about it over the next week. would be nice to have it higher.
October 9, 201113 yr My shed is 210cm high at walls and I think 254cm at gable peak anyway I would not want it any lower. It still gets very warm in there. Yes i wish mine was 375 x 375 too but mine was vary expensive it is an Steel Chief shed and it cost 1 hundred something dollars to get the extra height plus a coupe of other extra things plus delivery to my door. around $800.00, if I wanted teh size you have it would of being 1200 hundred or so.
October 9, 201113 yr My old birdroom was 2400 at the plate height and 2700 at gable height....that was pretty near perfect. The lower the roofline the less height you can use for breeder cages and the hotter it gets inside.
October 10, 201113 yr Author Thanks for the input. I have a shed 3.5 x 4 mt with a flat roof that I could use instead. It stands 2.3 mt tall. Would need to modify a bit, but would work out better in the long run.
October 11, 201113 yr Author I would put the new one up where the older 3.5 x 4 mt shed is, and put the old shed on the new slab. The older shed is more solid and has a square tubing frame which would be easier to insulate and line. Only problem is that the new slab will be about 100 mm too short so I would have to extend it slightly. Wish i had of thought of all this beforehand.
October 11, 201113 yr I would of thought the slab would be to big , isn't the new shed 4mt x 4mt and the old shed 4mt x 3.50. Any way sounds good, the tubing for framing will be heaps easier. Edited October 11, 201113 yr by **KAZ**

October 11, 201113 yr new shed is 3.75 x 3.75 built the slab 4mt x 4 mt .. Old shed is 3.5 x 4.05 ..So just a tad over..Will get some pics up of old shed... opps sorry read it wrong and I was envious that your shed was 4mt x 4mt but still it is .75 x.75 bigger than mine. But mine is a breeding room only so I guess plenty big enough. So that means you need to put a bit more cement down. Yes post some pics will be good.
October 15, 201113 yr Author Why does it always rain on the weekends. Also blowing a gale outside. Was hoping to start the next stage of my birdroom.
October 28, 201113 yr Author Update time.. Not much has happened due to work and weather. This is the shed that I was going to use as a birdroom. 3.75 mt X 3.75 mt..... Height is 183 cm wall and 215 cm room. Nice size but a bit low in the roof. This is the shed that I am going to use instead. 3.5 mt wide X 4 mt long X 2.3 mt high Flat roof. "> I like this shed also because it has an internal frame... Will make it easier to line it out... Will need to add a window later and some laserlite sheets on the roof.. "> Also need to add a bit more concrete to slab... "> Was hoping to get it done this weekend but the forecast is for more rain ... New shed will go where the green one is... January 1, 201213 yr Author Time for an update.......... Shed is up on the slab ....... Still a lot of work to do, but it is a work in progress.... I went to the tip shop the other day and purchased this door for $8..... The idea is to wire the top half and use it as my main door, just using the solid door outer door at night for security... I also purchased this window for $15........ I think it is double glazed with wire in between... I would like to put this in the front r/h side of the shed..... Also picked up a few of my old breeding cages that had been out on loan.... Now have 22 breeding cages in total.... Glad now that I did not sell them I still need to line the inside and put something on the floor......... Also I still need to put up the new shed so I can get my tools out of this one... Aviary is still only half up...... So much to do and so little time..... Edited January 1, 201213 yr by Twisted
