Posted October 5, 201113 yr It is normal? one of my Cocks (Banjo) has been feeding one of my Hens (Patch) I thought it was just a one time thing but I've noticed he's been doing it all the time the last few days (home on Hoildays more time to sit and watch them all play). Is there anything wrong with him doing this? Ta Bel
October 5, 201113 yr this is absolutely normal behaviour they may even engage in sex, that is normal behaviour. She will not nest unless you provide her with a place to nest
October 5, 201113 yr are they in the aviary with the nestboxes ? when you say not breeding do you mean not mating ? because breeding and mating are two different things. Most mating occurs well before most people get out of bed. In (99.9% of all nest of chicks I have ever had I would only ever see one mating out of hundreds and hundreds. ) If they are in that aviary with nestboxes and you have observed feeding behaviour then mating is likely to have occurred. Please make sure that you as a bird owner dont have underaged budgies anywhere near where a nestbox is. Underaged means any budgies under 12 months of age. this is absolutely normal behaviour they may even engage in sex, that is normal behaviour. She will not nest unless you provide her with a place to nest I agree with Dave. However if there are nestboxes then this behaviour goes from normal innocent activities to full on breeding. ( not to be confused with mating. ) Edited October 5, 201113 yr by **KAZ**
October 5, 201113 yr Author Kaz, I took those nesting boxes out within days of putting the birds in the aviary. I've no intention of breading, hence once you all told be the risk of having the Nesting boxes in the aviary I took them out... the aviary only has perchs in it these days, here is an updated picture so you can see the boxes are out. I'm just concerned because Banjo is chasing Patch around the aviary to feed her, it looks like he's not letting her feed for herself. here's a picture of the two of them... October 5, 201113 yr Even though most birds wont lay without a nestbox, some determined ones will ......its breeding season so the cock is definitely in the mood But budgie bonking is definitely a part of normal recreational behaviour for budgies. Your aviary looks fantastic a space for your birds Edited October 5, 201113 yr by **KAZ**
