I just bought 2 pairs of budgies. Both hens have egg binding. The people wernt going to help them so i brought them.$15 a pair.I cant go to the vet and i need a method to at least try to help them.I have a lamp next to the cage for the heat is fhis all i can do???

Please help!!!!

okay all i can say is heat heat heat keep them both warm in a small quiet box or show cage if you got one one for each bird

how long they been egg bound did the person say ???

turn each hen upside down

and drop a pinch of salt on their vents the vent should pulsate and the salt should start natural contractions but induced of course dont use to much salt you can prolapse the bird

then just put them back in their warm 30 degrees room is best and leave them in quiet

you do not want them running around and you do not want to puch on eggs and brake them

if the hen prolapses when the egg passes then you must stick your finger straight in her egg whole pushing it back in then again let hen rest in warmth she most probbly will die though from stress however i have dont this and saved bird you can not breed from theses hens again

again how long birds been like this

their is other methods but salt is my fav a warm bath is another method i have successfully used

should take half hour to hour for hen to pass the egg with this (salt) method

okay the bath is only if your hens are not wiggling and squirming

get bowl of warm water and place hen up to head in the water again add a tad of salt just half tea spoon to a normal bowl

the warmth and relaxing bath will help her pass her egg when you remove her and dry her dry her well and keep her warm i

and then place in warm quiet box for her to rest

less stress better chance

the salt method is my choise as bath can get chill if bird is not dryed completely

all i can say is good luck

by the way lamps not good enough get a heater in a small room like the laundry up to 30 degree at least

The person i brought them off was a terrible breeder, didnt have a clue that they were eggbound and was going to let them sit their until they either pass the egg or die.

I tried the salt and the vent starting on one but it dint on the other, it didnt actually get in the vent so should i do that hen or leave it.And thanks GB much appreciated.

okay im not sure what you just said then

did you say you did the salt on one hen but didnt get it in the vent

i guess i didnt make it clear that the salt needed to penetrate the vent area to actually work

can you get pics so we can actualy see the area she may not even be egg bound

how do you know they are >????

how long i ask AGAIN were the hens in nests

**** breeder or not they must know at least that

if you leave them and they are egg bound two birds and not actually having a clue about them or finding out anything about how long they were nesting or how old how many eggs layed already prier to the egg binding

these birds need someone experianced they need a vet or a breeder whom knows what they are doing

I had a friend ask me to have a look at their bird because it is egg bound, drove out there to find the hen was sick , very sick. pasted bum etc. My friend had no idea, she had the hen in a hospital cage which was good, she treated her but she did die that night.

Are you sure they are eggbound ??

Yes im sure, they both have large swollen masses near the vent and i can feel the egg.Have you got any tips for this, one of the hens vent is opening a mil or 2 then closing is this the egg starting to pass.

P.S. I used the salt, and there was a almost instant contraction.

yes it induces contractions if the hen is egg bound she will pass the egg

please keep her warm and quiet

should take half hour you could also drop a tad of olive oil in the vent to help smooth things over (pain relife kind of olive oil not vegetable almond oil is also okay but none other

please keep us updated please every now n then so i can help you through i need to know everything

is the hens panting ??

are they stressed relaxed have you got feed and water with them

are they warm where exactly have you got them

are they bright enough bar the YOU THINK egg boundness

and what way is the mass faceing the right way or is the egg posably turned as if its turned you may need to help egg out

One of the hens eggs moved up; to the tip of the vent. But no eggs and i administered it 1 1/2 ago.The other hen i cant really feel a egg and she has had her tail going up and down.Could this be constipation. Also the only poops in the cage are long and black not round like the normal ones.

so if you listen to this you can see why a vet or experianced person is needed

mate please we need pics and detailed infomation if you want us to walk u through this

if you live in australia pm me your phone number ill try my best to help will be quicker by phone

gb

did you watch this ???

Very helpful links.

Scary man though.

Hope everything goes okay though for you!

this is a larger bird than a budgie being manually helped pass an egg

this bird is under anasenic though

you would be stupid to try this as an un -experienced person

please get these birds to a vet if you think they were worth saving then do it safely and humanly please

why is a vet not an option ??

you can surrender them to the vets if cost is an issue

look what the bird will need to indue

:(

if you save these girls you will not be able to breed them for my recommended time is one and half years thats if they pass eggs themselves if you need to get egg out then longer they need to heal

i gave a prolapse hen to benny boy (free of course )i explained she had not been breed for a year and why

and that if he breeds her be very careful and watch full

he did everything right he waited another 8 months

but she proplapssed and died regardless of extra care and supplements

i personally would not breed these hens again

other do i know

i would not

kaz i have rang this young lad and they are still okay

for now

i will be chatting to him tonight

see how things are

How old are these hens ?

Well i think they are three, how old is a purple ring, the lady told me they were three.

Breeders rings in Australia have a 6 year cycle.

2001 - Green

2002 - Black

2003 - Red

2004 - Blue

2005 - Purple

2006 - Gold

2007 - Green

2008 - Black

2009 - Red

2010 - Blue

2011 - purple

2012 - gold

you need to look on those purple rings and see what number goes vertically up the ring next to a symbol

okay great news, my lute hen passed her egg.The grey hen has been un-decieded on so far but i can't feel a egg.So it may be just swelling.

A HUGE thanks to GB who has been a great help and deserves a pat on the back, i,m greatful she was such a great help without her my hen would have probably died.
