Hi, I bought 4 new budgies today. Wanting to breed them. I have 2 hens and 2 cocks. Was wondering how old they are?

 

2 have blue rings around their leg, one has red and the last one I think has black?

 

Please let me know what you think.

Blue rings in australia are from september 2009 through to sept 2010

Red rings are 2009

black 2008

 

you didnt post photos so we cant see which sexes you got.

 

Important not to breed with hens too old.

 

Often older hens sold on have had issues and hence the reason they were sold.......depending on who you bought them from and level of trust.

1 hen has blue

1 hen has red

1 cock has blue

1 cock has black

 

Apparently both the ones with blue rings have never bred. The breeder told me the red ring hen has had 1 nest of babies all healthy. The black cock has never had any either.

 

They haven't touched their food since they got home, is this normal?

as far as food goes..........are you feeding them the same food they were eating where they used to live
