The opaline sky hen chick is out of the nestbox about 4 times a day and I keep putting her back.....she isnt fully feathered yet.

Finally found a photo of the dad who died 051-1.jpg

He was a victorian bird bred by John Ennis.

But he is only the father of the blues and the yf grey.

You've got some beautiful budgies there KAZ :) I'm loving that cinnamon visual violet, when I'm older I'm gonna have to breed myself some of those :) They're gorgeous <3 <3 <3

R.I.P to all of those who have died <3

FIVE chicks out of nest now, only the youngest sky normal is still in the nest. I am not going to put the others back as the opaline sky hen us ALWAYS out  and I am putting her back up to 4-5 times a day. She's out to stay now. I have called her BUNGEE. The YF grey is also out today and looking like it wished it wasnt :D

John Ennis is in my club and is breeding some super YFs at the moment. His YF line is really good Kaz.

Wonder if he would ship some over to W.A. ?

Yes Kaz he is a good breeder, I had one of his pied a beautiful grey pied but he never bred for me so I moved him on, Not John's fault because I bought him as a young bird.

He is really a nice bloke too.

Personally I think the opaline hen is going to be a better bird than the sky normal at this stage anyway........looking better as far as feather up top and width across the cere..... they both could do with a longer mask

and some other babies hatching, fertile eggs. Fertility and results still down but I just put some other birds down to breed as my breeding room can handle the summer we will have. The temporary breeding room will now be permanently the end bedroom ( we have 7 bedrooms so we can stand using one for breeding ) .........Cec Gearing came for a visit and convinced my husband to let me keep it as a breeding room rather than build one way down the yard. :D :D :D I have 40 breeding cabinets on the go.

soon to be rebuilding the aviaries down the back yard since the two aviaries we came here with were never intended to be all we had.

This is another bird bought at the auction........my husband chose and bought this cinnamon visual violet spangle bred by Fran and John Mac loughlan $ 110

Aw shoot! How very disappointing. I'm so sorry for you.

Glad to hear you don't have to move your breeding room again.

Good news, get to keep your breeding room that's great, that will make more room for aviaries now lol.

Sorry to here about the violet dieing, I just lost a bird from auction too. money down the drain.

Kaz babies are looking promising.

40 Breeder Cabinets on the go! ohmy.gif You must be very, very BUSY! biggrin.gif How is fertility, how many nests have fertile eggs?

Sad news about that pretty Violet Spangle. sad.gif RIP.

Kaz you did't put him strait into the breeding cage, with a hen, you may of still had him, if you had done that.Do there Q time in a breeding cage.

I was told to do that many times before Macka, and ONCE I followed that advice. Unfortunately for me a hen was a carrier of psittacosis and she not only killed the cockbird she was with within the incubation time of the disease but all birds in breeding cages around her died too. I lost all birds within about 9 breeding cages due to her carrying psittacosis and not showing symptoms.

Needless to say I havent quanrantined in a breeder cage since.

How is fertility, how many nests have fertile eggs?

Read back through Renee........already answered. :D

Sorry, did you mean this?

Fertility and results still down

I was hoping for a number or percentage ... smile.gif

I only managed just over 40% this year... surely you're doing better than that!
