Hi,

My name is Mat and I currently live in Sydney. My girlfriend really like budgies (she has 1 at the moment) and I wanted to be supportive and learn about them so we can get some more together. I guess for next couple of days/weeks I'll be mostly browsing this forum and reading and learning all there is to learn :) I do need one advice, this might sound weird but I was never a big fan of pets. It's not that I don't like them, its quiet the opposite I would love to have some (especially budgies) but all I keep thinking about is how sad it's going to be when they die and this always makes me not get any. Is that normal to think that? Do any of you think the same? Anyways, looking forward to getting to know you all, and thanks for creating this website. It's been a great help and I just started using it :)

Hi Mat and welcome,

You will find budgie keeping is a very exciting and rewarding hobby. I never think of them dying although from time to time you may lose some. One of the main things i have found is their diet and keep your eye out for dirty bottoms.

There is a good book by John Scoble a well known Australian in the Budgerigar circle called "The Complete Book of Budgerigars" Always handy to have on hand for reference and advice. There is of course some wonderful info on this site. However I also like to have a book on hand for reference.

Best regards

Thanks mate, I might purchase the book before I get any budgies to learn some things about them and how to take proper care of them. I'll check it out on Amazon, hope they have it. This forum seems pretty friendly and very helpful. I guess I'll keep you all posted on how my adventures go :)
