There are is a violet about 4 weeks old and 2 more dark greens for sure about 3 weeks old and I think 2 more greens about 2 weeks, there were 15 in total but I lost a lot.

Lovely looking chicks!!!Has the first chick photographed...the grey spangle I think......got a reddish colour to its mask? or is it just the photo? They look like big chicks to me, as I breed pet type only which are not exactly large birds.

Vrey Nice Chicks Splat.. i would be very please at this stage.

Remember, you only need one good bird to win the nationals. ;)

Thanks Daz. I am very pleased with them and plus quality dark greens and they are big birds. The 1st have purple rings on and the last 4 have 2012 rings on.

lol I don't know about the Nationals , they will be very young next year for Shield ans National considering there will be birds up to 18 months benched.

But at at least I am building my family and I should be in a good position for Shields and Nationals 2013.

After having 2 bad season including this one I am very happy with what chicks I am breeding.

Thanks Robyn, yes it has been a very depressing time. Once I worked out what the problem was then things went well for a few weeks then the bad luck returned, dead in shell at hatching, stiff backs and out stretched legs and a few with their hips out.

Last week I lost 4 out of this nest, they looked perfectly healthy full crops just dead. But after talking to GB I put them all on turbosole because Gardina (type of canker)how ever it is spelt is quite common in the birdroom. Well to cut the story short everything is going well now and the surviving chicks that looked scrawny have waked the weight on and look healthy as.

I think this is the other one there are 2 they look the same and rats they both have grey suffusion and I use a cinnamon spangle too. Maybe they will moult it out, my yellow hens did a couple of years back.

grey slumped over perch again but not 5 weeks yet

That sky is a bit different to the others, the feather is longer and not as dense. it's going to push lots of feather up and out I reckon. Looks showy.

Thanks Dan I think it is a cock the other day I thought hen but today the cere looked more cock. Anyway I think he will be a stunner, but going by the bars he might be flecked, I hope not. He has nice rise. he is only around 5 weeks no older.

He is a cross of both my lines. I have 2 more coming on that I think will be the same. I put 2 sister from the violet line to 2 brothers from the spangle line and this is what I got. I only saved the one chick which was disappointing. And I save 2 chicks from the other pair.

So after all these years it looks like things are improving , well I hope anyway.

thats great that things worked out splat

i was just going to chat to you about the results of putting the birds on turbosole for 3-4 days

only takes one Peront to have it and chicks to be swapped from nest to nest for **** to hit the fan

i know as i lost two chicks that way and a whole nest just lucky with me was the nest i moved the only surviving chick to that had the issue and i only worked it out as the first chick died was a day old so it grows quick and the little chicks cant eat their crops are filled with canker they seem to gasp for air and stick little legs out stiff back line being caused

then the next day the oldest chick from the foster nest died it was the chick i fosted in their so as it was fine one min dead next i put two in to together

i cropped all chicks with turbosole from that nest and moved them into new nests and i took box off didnt want hen to keep feeding as she must had it herself to be passing it on took a two weeks for it to reach point of affecting chicks she and dad looked fine still but obviously would not be

i then turbosoled every breeder cage for 4 days each giving the 4 chicks left alive from the mainly hit nest crop next morning as well

everything's been fine since

so thats how i found my issue and sounded similar to splats so i let her know :) as it wasnt going to hurt the birds 3-4 days treatment but stop it if it was indeed canker

im actually doing my breeders again now splat i waited two n half weeks and now chicks out nest im doing them all one more time same period of time i chatted to my vet in he said would be good idea to do it again in two n half weeks so

what people forget is breeding stresses the birds even if just a bit so and canker being activated by stress in birds whom carry the little thingys well its not like you would know as its not like the flock has it and quiet often feeding hens make the eerr err eeerrr sound and regurgitate so looks normal action to most

Things seem to be going much better , haven't lost chick for a few weeks now, and i have 2 new chicks and all is well.

I am a bit worried though my shield winner the violet cock has lost a bit of weight, probably from feeding , he still has body weight but I caught him today and his keel was quite sharp, he is normally a solid bird. I can't loose him because

he is my main bird on the normal side.

Oh he doesn't look sick or anything just the keel bone is a bit sharp.

Scared.

The chicks were almost 6 weeks so i took them out yesterday and it's amazing his keel bone I could hardly feel today. He must of still being feeding those lazy chicks.

Anyway looks like he will be okay thank god.

Thank you Kocky.

I think about 35-40 if that. Need to have another count but a few have died again. But nothing has died for 2 weeks now, since I treated them for 3 days with turbosole. so fingers crossed.

I have 3 new little chicks to add to though. And they are going great.

UBC by the look of it

LOL I thought I would cheer you up with a bit R rating lol. I get jealous sometimes the lucky things, that's my white

boy and his daughter, not picky is he.lol

Funny Gb was getting on before to say RIGHT I quit, who wants my birds, I have had enough until I read your post and it

made me wake up to myself.

Went out to the birdroom this morning and a 2 day old chick dead, full crop but very pale and the nest I really wanted the chicks from hatch 1 this morning and 1 this arvo , any way 1 was dead late this arvo and I was so upset about it because it was from that nest and the surviving chick is an albino from another nest that I don't really care about.

The chick that died was half sister to the sky above.

SO SICK OF IT ALL ... Empty out quite a few boxes today.

They are looking good Splat,

UBC by the look of it

Thanks Macka, it's about time I bred something worth while lol. The sky has a purple ring on

, should of really had a orange ring but I kept using the old rings until a few days into September.

Now I am kicking myself. But the 2 spangles are orange rings.
