September 14, 201113 yr Hi guys i was just wondering what you put in the bottom of the breeding cabinet and the breeding box when you put your pairs down to breed. i have seen a few people mention what they use in the breeding box, but im not sure which one is the one i should choose, also i dont know what to put on the bottom of the cabinet. Newspaper, Sand im not sure. Not sand! It flies about all over the place and is a real pain. Most people use newspaper, I use Fussy Cat Litter.
September 14, 201113 yr I use wads of newspaper and peel off the top layers ever couple of days leaving a fresh layer underneath. this works fine if the budgies dont chew it all up Depends a lot on your kind of breeder cabinets too. Photo of yours will help us advise you.
September 14, 201113 yr When they are first put down I do not put anything - I use wore cages so the massive put droppings go right through. Once eggs are layed and they begin to hatch, I will put newspaper down on the bottom of the cage. This is so when there are little feet they will not have to try to walk on the wire. It will also mean they can pick at the seed that is on the ground.
September 20, 201113 yr I have a slide out metal tray in my cages. I line this with a couple sheets newspaper, change this every couple days or so. DON'T USE PLASTIC INSERTS IN NEST BOX'S. (SPLAYED LEGS IF YOU DO) In nest box I use wood shavings. Hen may throw this out at first, if so, I wait until chicks start to hatch, she usually accepts the shavings then.
