I Found A Good Budgie Book Today

I bought a book today, from a small second hand store, 'The Cult of the Budgerigar', by Watmough. I paid $8.

It is an old copy, possibly the first edition circa 1952.

This is now my third book on the budgerigar. I have a book by John Scoble, 'The Complete Book of Budgerigars' which I had as a kid but misplaced it, so I picked it up on Ebay. Also I picked another good book called, 'Budgerigars, All You Need to Know, by Michael Christian.

Its great reading when you cannot be bothered sitting at the computer.

I have all those books, I think in my view the The Cult is the better book of the 3.

Are there any others you would also recommend???I enjoy reading these books and gaining knowledge in the fancy.

Agree with splat on the better book. I have just recently purchased the first edition of "Genetics for Budgerigar Breeders" by Taylor and Warner. Will go nicely in my collection.

Great recommendations, guys! After reading this, I went right over to Ebay and purchased a copy of the Taylor and Warner book. Can't wait to get it. :D

(I also put some of the others on my Wish List at Amazon.)

That book by Watmough and the BEAUTIFUL colour plates in it was what really got my interest in budgies started when mum was breeding budgies. That clearwing violet in particular. Just gorgeous.

The Guide to Colour and Mutation in Parrots is a pretty good book if you really want to try and get your head around some of the genetics. Worth a read (a few reads actually as it's pretty in depth).

I have got a beautiful book on budgies called "Budgerigars" by Cyril H Rogers. Beautiful coloured drawings showing all the different colours. I have had it for years from when I used to breed budgies before

Dixie

I got a good collection of books called "what about"...

Each book covers 1 variety or color...9 books in total..

Just ran across this thread again, and thought I would bump it. I finished my Taylor and Warner book, and am now on to the John Scoble one. I think I'll refer to this thread when I go to pick my next book, too.

I thought it was interesting to read a 50 year old book, and see how things were the same yet different then. Like, there were no spangles back then.

Anybody else read any good budgie books lately?

THE CHALLENGE by Gerald Binks is a great book but a bit expensive..

Is there a shop to buys these books or is it mainly online?

I agree with you Twisted "THE CHALLENGE" is a great book.

It is like my Budgie Bible and I still refer to it every couple of months.

Also Ccrane the book by Rob Marshall "THE BUDGERIGAR " is a great book.

I got all my books online.

They are expensive but well worth it.
