please give me some advice on how to convince my parents to let me get and aviary

Hey mate.

 

Parents operate off the positives of their children being both reponsible and helping out around the house and garden.

 

For instance, if you never ever vaccum the house, help with dishes, bring in the washing off the line, help around the yard, with the rubbish bins, any digging or hard yard work.........

 

parents wont usually do too much to help you acchieve your dreams.

 

Best way is to be a helpful and positive kid in the home and not just before or when you want something.

 

If you are already doing all that then you now need to have a plan.

 

1. Location for an aviary.

 

2. Seek one out you can afford and that doesnt mean parents pay for ....sometimes a shed is free or cheaper than an aviary and can be converted easily with some tin sheets removed and aviary mesh added.

 

3. You do the siteworks to locate the shed or aviary.

 

4. You have a budget that covers not only seed and vegies but a fund put aside for any vet fees that may crop up along the way. If you havent saved any money start now and get a part time job. My kids, at your age, used to sell the Sunday newspaper on a saturday night for pocket money. That gave them $40-$50 each.

 

5. Write up a full proposal for your parents that shows you have thought of everything and it wont cost them a cent now or in the future. Make a contract that you all sign that means you will stick to any promises you make either about financial or labour input. Make it thorough so they can see that you have researched and thought of absolutely everything.

if you want birds its you that must fund it

vet savings should be at least 60 dollars per bird you own and 55 for medication that they may need each bird so thats a cost of 115 per bird saved in a bank account that can earn interest if not used that way your gaining if your birds stay healthy

if you plan to breed budgies decide how many you can breed as in number of possable chick out come and homes to go to

each cage will cost you as if you plan to breed then no point starting off breeding in aviary as you will just bring issues to yourself

you will need

all the necessary items per cage per pair

and spare

if you want to do this i think save your penny's as your doing that study up as much as you can on everything from how long before each eggs layed to hatching what to do if mum doesnt feed egg binding and prevention of illness

sighns of illness

feeding programe this is even for pet

most of all you pay you do you show you know what ever is needed to know get them to right you a servy of questions that you must awnser if they are not sure you are capable to show you know what to do in all situations

good luck with it

most of all be prepared to spend alot of time cleaning feeding and maintaining your birds dayly at least one hour a day at least thats just watching and knowing your birds ways so you can tell if any behavior changes could mean the difrents between a dead bird and a live one you could save

Hey dillster, i do everything for my budgies, when i wanted to get budgies and an aviary my parents were a bit sceptical but i promised i would be the one to look after them. i do. I babysit my mums friends son occasionally which givs me about 50 dollars. this is how i cover costs for treats or new toys.

 

Also do you really need an aviary for one budgie

I agree with GB and Kaz. Show the 'oldies' you are a very responsible lad and save your cash to fund this great hobby.GOOD LUCK. I hope all goes well.I had an aviary when I was in late primary school and really enjoyed caring for the budgies and quails I had. I was lucky because my dad loved and still loves budgies so he bought the aviary and all the birds but I had to do all the cleanings, topping up of water and seed, killing and removing mice, removal of dead birds and anything else to do with the birds. It was not a huge aviary but I have very fond memories from the time spent in and around it.I am 38 now and after 20 years of being out of the hobby I returned to it 1.5 years ago and wishing I had never given it up.

Well, I'm 13 and I started off with a cage and two budgies, and almost 2 years later I have an aviary and 16 budgies ( and two cockatiels ). A few members probably remember how clueless I was compared to now lol ( not that I'm not clueless now ).

And it takes a lot of persistence!

I'm too young to get a job apparently, so every dollar I save from pocket money goes towards my budgies.

 

Advice?

Show them you are responsible and do a lot of research, save up and work out feeding ( and other things ) routines. So basically what everybody else said.
