Posted August 25, 201113 yr I have a 5-6 month old hen who has been laying eggs. She was in a covered outdoor flight avairy (with a male in it that was mating another hen) and she began laying eggs. I took her out and put her in a separate breeding cage (with no nesting box) so she wouldn't get worn out, and removed the egg. But she keeps laying more eggs. If I leave the egg in the cage, she sits on it. I think she is too young to breed. How do I stop her from laying eggs and wanting to sit on them? Thankyou
August 25, 201113 yr Just leave her in the aviary but make sure there is no nest boxes in there. If she is in a small cage, just make sure there is nowhere for her to nest, other than that I wouldn't worry about it to much. I have a friend who has had chicks under 3 months lay eggs in the baby cage, but then they don't sit on them though.
