Posted August 20, 201114 yr Hi Everyone, I've recently brought some new budgies and been using this forum for research, it's awesome! I eventually would like to start breeding just want to find out as much info as possible beforehand, i have 8 at the moment they are all in a big cage together, but i have got some breeding cages and boxes ready to go! (just in case). My budgies at the moment are: 2x crested Tufts, green & yellow and they seem to be very bossy! lol, i think maybe because they are only young, 5 months 1x 12 month old lutino, female 1x 12 month old yellow and green Pied, male 1x Blue with Yellow head, female 1x Grey 18 month old male 1x Cobolt Blue male, i think around 12 months The man who i brought most of them off was a breeder, and after doing my research am shocked that he told me they are okay to start breeding after 3 months of age!!!! it sounded just wrong to me and after reading all info on this site i know i was right thinking that was incorrect. Hmmm just watching them in the cage now, the two crested birds are very boisterous!! they are from the same parents and im not sure of their sex yet, they seem to be annoying the other birds? should i seperate them?, the reason for me putting them all together was just to see if they gradually paired up when they are ready. I'm considering getting an avairy, not for the breeding side of things just for excercise/play, although am worrried about then being able to catch them again, the cage they are all in now is BIG, but also still fairly easy to catch them if need be. Now that i think of the breeder telling me that it's fine to start breeding them at 3months i'm hoping he told me the correct age of the budgies! and i hope they are not imbred? or how does that work with breeding budgies? Sorry lots of questions.....just want to get my knowledge up to scratch so things run smoothly Any advice will be greatly appreciated
August 20, 201114 yr Welcome CheekyBudgies Good to hear your common sense prevailed over the bad bad advice of the person who sold you the budgies and advised you about breeding. Please make sure you never have any nestboxes anywhere where an underaged budgie is, and do read our article on colony breeding for extra assistance Here http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=28294&hl= If in doubt over the age of your budgies.....post clear front on photos of ceres and some close up shots of iris rings( eyes ) and we should be able to advise. Cheers Kaz
August 20, 201114 yr Author Thank you I have just added a few pics, more to come when i get some good ones. Yeah it's scary he breeds so many birds, mainly specialises in exotic parrots though and he thinks that that is okay? it's a worry :/
