Posted August 16, 201114 yr One of my hens that had chicks last season was sitting on 6 eggs again until 2 days ago. In the morning she was fine, but by 4 o'clock in the afternoon all the eggs were thrown out of the breeding box (with half-developed chicks in them) and the shells were partly smashed. Do you think the birds did this, or is it more likely to be mice? Also, if the birds did it, how do I stop them doing it again?

August 16, 201114 yr okay..............cabinet breeding. Can still be being accessed by mice. Other than that an egg eating parent. Some parents will do this when severely stressed. More info needed Benny
August 17, 201114 yr Author Thanks for your help. The budgies are in cabinets which are in an outdoor (undercover) flight aviary. There are only the 2 parents in the nestbox. There are mice getting into the flight aviary but we are slowly and surely killing them off. The weather has been about 15 degrees during the week the eggs were thrown out of the nesting box. They have got calcium and iodine blocks, mineral horse block, egg and biscuit, seaweed, pink vitamin powder. We haven't worked out how to put photos on the forum yet. Hopefully that's enough info that you need. Thanks again from Benny
