Hi, I was just wondering what vitamins and such do you give your birds while they are breeding? Or before breeding starts? I have Breeding Aid, but I am also trying to get Calcivet and Triple C. Would there be any more things I need to get? (Apart from calcium bells)

Thanks. :)

Tracemin & b12.

I give mine an all round supplement. I increase the amount of times I give it to them in a week from twice to every second day.

I was told by my avian vet to do so as the hen and cock both lose vitamins during breeding.

If you want the name just repy to this post.

NOTE THAT YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BUY IT WHERE YOU LIVE. I live in Melbourne and my avian vet that supplies it us about 5 minutes from where I live...

Thanks for replying Taylor. Well it wouldn't do any harm knowing the name. I guess I could look around for it! Thanks.

It's dark outside so I will post tomorrow. I'm sick so I'm staying home. I'll write down what vitamins are in it as well.

Where do you live?

Thanks so much Taylor. I live in Brisbane. Oh and also, I hope you get better.

Thanks. Yeah the supplement is made by my avian vet Colin Walker, so I dont know whether it is in other states yet, but I'll definitely update tomorrow with the name and list of vitamins.

okay here are the details:

Name is nutrivet seed booster.

Made by dr Colin walkers bird health pty ltd

The bottle has a green label with a white and red nutrivet sign

The vitamins include:

Vitamins A, D3, E, K, B12

Thiamine

Riboflavin

Panothenic Acid

Iodine

Lysine HCI

Selenium

Pyrodoxine

Tryptophan

Folic Acid

Nicotinamide

Methionine

Choline Chloride

Zinc

Maganese

Copper

Cobalt.

Yeah some of those probably will go straight over your head, they do to me.

You mix 3mls of it to 1 liter of water. That's the equivalent of 7 drops to 100mls of water. (not 7, 3ml drops, just 7 drops from one of the needle things without the needle) Sorry, can't think of what they're called right now, must be all the Panadol and Mersyndol I'm doped up on!

Hope I can help!!!

Thanks again. Haha yeah, most of the vitamins I haven't even heard of! Would you think if I gave this to my birds (if I find some) that I would have to give the other medications to them as well like Calcivet and Breeding Aid? I would still get them just in case but I don't want to over-dose on vitamins! I heard it can happen, maybe not during breeding..... Anyway thanks for that. I'll look out for it!

Lol!

Yeah you don't wanna overdose them on vitamins. I would just use the seed booster I suggested and breeding aid, not calcivet.

The seed booster just adds extra vitamins that you wouldn't get in seed and breeding aid has vitamins essential for breeding budgies.

Hope that I have helped you out Nim!

I would definately use a calcium product as the hen uses up a lot of calcium during egg production. Lack of calcium can lead to a lot of problems. Seed booster and breeding aid are both vitamins so you will be doubling up. I would be using just one vitamin product with the calcivet.

Yeah an iodine bell could also come in handy.

I use Marshall's products and the birds seem to benifit from them.
