Posted August 14, 201113 yr Can anyone tell me if there something wrong with this bird? It looks like there is something wrong with the cere. All I have managed to dig up so far is conflicting information. Some information suggests a mite is causing it, others sugest it is a result of the bird being ready to breed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The problem bird is the blue/green one, not the white one. Edited August 14, 201113 yr by Kimba
August 14, 201113 yr Its hard to see as the picture is facing the wrong way, needs to be closer up aswell. mostlikely if it is a female that it could be ready to breed or could be the scaley face mite. please post more close up pics so we can help.
August 14, 201113 yr It looks normal. There is a health issue called hypertrophy of the cere that means the cere builds up and looks a whole lot larger than yours does but I dont think your bird has it. She isnt in breeding condition at the moment and doesnt seem to have scalyface mites although they may be beginning ( check the beak for roughness and minute tunnelling lines running through it. Give us a closer photo of cere. Edited August 14, 201113 yr by **KAZ**
August 14, 201113 yr Author I tried to get as close as possible when I took the photo but the bird is so wild that it kept flying away and facing away from the camera so I couldn't get a really good shot. This is the best shot I can supply. Hope this helps in the identification. Edited August 14, 201113 yr by Kimba
August 14, 201113 yr Based on the lines down the beak she may well have scalyface. So, treatment is spot on ivermectin ( from the vet ) ...........one spot on the skin under the feathers on the back of her head. Please remove the mirror..............one of them is feeding the mirror and it affects their mental state. She is also moulting.
