Max Number Of Budgies In Aviary

Featured Replies

This is the Avery we built .. its 2m long, 1.5m tall and 1m deep (the breeding boxes are out now).

I'm still awaiting the trays for the bottom to collect the mess... the mesh in the bottom is small enough for the brids to stand on if they want to and not get caught in it.

I was told I could fit upto 20 in there.. is that true, I've got 7 in there now...

Thanks

I woul say just under 20.

It might just be the angle, but it looks like you only have a few perches???

Also are you going to be colony (in the aviary) or cabinet/line breeding (in separate boxes outside the aviary)?

I would suggest cabinet breeding as there are less problems like horrible fights, territory wars and even deaths.

The main perch is 2m long, then we've got a short one the runs front to back that about 90cm long, plus two others down lower that are about 1.5m long.. we took the breeding boxed out, and on the weekend we're going to put another long fixed perch all the length.. since all the others are on chain and swing a little... so if its 150mm per bird there should be enough for 40ish... right??

We're thinking of 10-15 max though.

I would say def more than 20..... yeah upto 40 would be fine

good job!!!

You COULD put that amount in, but it depends whether you have the time, money and organization to look after that many birds...

i would say 25-30 from that picture.

I wouldnt be putting 40-ish in there at all. 20 is the most I would put in there.....with no nestboxes.

The rule of thumb is give each bird 150mm of perch space. so if you have a 1 meter long perch, thats 7 birds. But i would have the perches across the cage so the birds can fly length wise.

I agree with Daz. And also, they like to perch up high, so any perches you have way down low, don't count those in your minimun perch requirements. Perches down low might make nice temporary landing spots, but they won't want to hang out down there, or sleep down there.
