I have a budgie, Old mate and i was just wondering if anyone knew what the ring number means? i tried to figure it out myself on the FAQS section but couldnt

The 10 is on its side and is much smaller then the other numbers.

 

How old is she? because i dont want to breed a budgie under a year old

The purple ring means she is a 2011 bred bird. With the new change however, this could mean she was born anytime from September 1 (2010) until the last couple months. DM is the breeder's code. The small "10" on it's side is for the club or state I think... Not to sure. I know my club has X8. 027 is the number ring (eg If I purchase 100 rings in my breeder code it owuld be SP001 - SP100. So I would say she was an earlier bred bird, but it would depend on the amounts of chicks the breeder has a year.I only got 30 chicks last season, so it would be a late bred bird for me, but some breeders pump out 200 chicks + per season. If the breed has their own rings though, then I would say they would be breeding in numbers.

I think the number on its side is actually the year, but I could be wrong.

So if its a purple ring then the bird was hatched between 1st September 2010 till the end of 2010

 

 

The DM would most likely be the breeder, but thats not always the case. My rings say NSW then a number, while I have birds which rings start with CBC (Cessnock Budgie Club)

The number means nothing to you. It would be for the breeder to look back on the birds lineage in their documents.

a DM ring was Father Dan McMahon but he isn't breeding at the moment due to ill health. He sold most of his birds in 2009 at Brisbane Auction. There would need to be more symbles on the ring for it to be a ANBC ring.

 

E.G. mine are SQ DAZ 11 001 the SQ is South Queensland. DAZ is me 11 is 2011 and the 001 is the bird number.

So then, if it's not an ANBC ring, then the DM could be just anybody's initials?

yes you can arrange for private rings from the manufactures. The ANBC rings have the special code on the year.
