Posted August 4, 201113 yr Well, Today I got some new fallow budgies! A member was kind enough to gift them to me. I have been hoping for some more for a while now, but no one seem's to have them. I own a split pair, and they are on 6 fertile eggs. I will be getting 25% fallows from them. With some of the normal's also being split fallows. Unfortunately I won't be able to tell. Today I got 4 new birds, 2 visual cock birds and 2 split hens. As far as I can see, both cock birds are violets. There is a purple and blue ring, and I am unsure if they are related. Both hens are blue rings, a green hen and a blue. My plan, pray it succeed, is to put the purple rung cock bird to the green hen. The green hen, as far as I can see, is the better bird. She is also bigger in the hand. The purple rung cock bird is the smaller bird, but that is only expected considering he is young. This will give me more visuals, with the other birds being known splits. I will then put the blue rung cock bird to a normal hen I have in the aviary. I will pick my biggest normal hen. All the chicks will be split. Next season, I will have visuals from two nests, and known split's from one. I will pick my best split and my best visual, and pair them. With the remaining known splits and visuals, I will pair them up accordingly. I may try a possible split to a visual as well, as I will still get known split birds from the pairing even if the possible split isn't split. I will get some better photo's tomorrow, as I only just got them and it was dark! Blue rung cock: Purple Rung cock:
August 4, 201113 yr Good luck with your lesser varieties Squeak, me I am still sticking to the easier varieties for the time being, except I have started on clearbodies and of course lutino and albino but they are for my clearbodies, but already I am having a head with the clearbodies with the suffusion. Next year I would like to have a go at lacewings. I would like to follow your journey with them.
August 5, 201113 yr Author Good luck with your lesser varieties Squeak, me I am still sticking to the easier varieties for the time being, except I have started on clearbodies and of course lutino and albino but they are for my clearbodies, but already I am having a head with the clearbodies with the suffusion. Next year I would like to have a go at lacewings. I would like to follow your journey with them. Well, I jumped right into the clearbodies. They are my main variety, and to a lesser extent YF Blue's, most with cinnamon. I never started on the easier varieties, unfortunate. Then my ino's, same with you. But I havent needed them in my clearbodies yet for suffusion. Lacewings, I just don't like. Don't know why... :/ So, I chose fallow's. Them and Clearbodies will be my main line's I think. Here are some more pictures. After seeing them in proper light, I have concluded a few things. - Sky Violet Cock bird, purple ring. He is the better bird for type. He does however have a feather twirl on his wing... I will need to ask the breeder about it. - DF Violet Cock bird, blue ring. Very heavy flights and wings, but my width across head. Bigger bird, but seem's a bit skinny. - Both hen's are nice birds, the Green bird being the better hen. The Blue hen has tighter wings though, so considering her and older cock bird. Some pictures, comments on type would be much appreciated. These birds are slippery, annoying and some of the naughtiest birds I have had in a cage! so pictures are very bad sorry! August 5, 201113 yr Your blue ring cock looks really small to me. Then again it might just be the way he is sitting
