Hen Behaviour

Featured Replies

In the recent few days everytime l peak to see them ( so they cant see me ) l always see the cock by itself while the hen is in the nestbox. Whenever the cock trys to get in the nestbox the hen is there stoping him. Currently there is no egg but was wondering is this usual behaviour for a hen to stay in the nestbox. i have seen them cleaning each other and regurgitating food which l think is a good sign.

She is staying in the nestbox because she is about to lay an egg :)

l hope :) when she is pregnant, seems like stupid question but is there a size change in the hen?

Sometimes you can see that their lower body becomes enlarged due to the presence of an egg.

Budgies do not have "pregnancies" . One egg at a time a time is formed and travels down the oviduct to be laid. The only signs you will see is an egg sized lump at the vent ( bottom ) within a day of being ready to be laid. They dont store eggs in their body therefore do not have an enlarged body in any way other than the egg showing at the vent just before being laid. They also do very large poops while egglaying.
