Posted July 31, 201113 yr Finally had some time today to start my journal... First of all, I hope that I will get some nice birds this year as this is my first season. Here are my pairs: Cobalt violet factor cock X light green opaline hen Normal light blue cock X normal light blue hen Grey green cinnamon cock X dom pied cinnamon opaline sky blue hen Note that the cock in pair 1 was supposed to mate with the hen in pair 3 but they didn't like each other at all so I moved them around to their current pairings. Pairs 1 and 3 are first timers whilst pair 2 breed last year at their original owners aviary. Will post again soon with updates. Gonna turn old cubbyhouse into new bird house over summer holidays. Current pairs will not breed their but 2012 pairs will. Took some convincing on my parents behalf though. Will post some pics soon of my cubbyhouse. It's 3:45 in Melbourne and I just sprayed the cubbyhouse with insect spray. It's amazing how many spiders and cockroaches have accumulated over the past 5 years since I last went in it!!! Anyway after brushing off spiders and their webs, I swept inside to get rid of debris like leaves and dead insects (serves those roaches right!). Will post with pics and plans Edited August 1, 201113 yr by **KAZ**
July 31, 201113 yr Sounds great, be mindful that it is harder to mouseproof and possibly gain access.
July 31, 201113 yr Author True but we are also gonna put up mesh to let air in summer flow through and to stop the cat from getting inquisitive...
August 1, 201113 yr Author Got some pics but Internet is slow. Hopefully tonight I'll post them... Edited August 1, 201113 yr by Taylor
August 1, 201113 yr Good idea about the mesh. my cat always sits near the budgies where he can see them but they can't see him.
August 1, 201113 yr Author Here are some photos of my pairs. Enjoy! I hope the pics turn out otherwise i'll try again tonight I was also told by the breeder what mutation they were but since then most of their colours have changed as these were taken months ago at the start of the year. Bing-cock, was told cobalt violet factor; partner to sunny Sunny-hen, was told opaline light green; partner to bing Fern-cock, was told grey green cinnamon; partner to poppy Poppy-hen, was told dom pied cinnamon opaline sky blue; partner to fern Sunny's head is, to me, unusual as she doesn't have stripes, but spots. Note also that she did have white rings in her eyes, the camera just didn't pick them up. I don't think Poppy is sky blue anymore. She is more light purple. I will try and post some more pics of my cubbyhouse im going to be converting, later tonight...
August 1, 201113 yr Author Got some more pics of my two inside budgies and finally some of my cubbyhouse. Enjoy and post what you think The 1st two are of my inside budgies Peppa left, Tilly right I caught them kissing. They pretty much just sat there posing. This is my cubbyhouse. Not very big, but I think it will be fine until Im older. This is inside looking up. I think colourbond roofing but will check with Dad. A third of the roof on one side is replaced by laser light. It keeps warmth and cool in. Will have to clean it though, its a bit weathered. The door can open fully or half way. My cat, Mia getting cheeky. Will post later Edited August 1, 201113 yr by Taylor
August 1, 201113 yr Author I think your cubby house is going to look fantastic as a bird house !! Thanks Kaz! We are also gonna laquer it to make it shiny and sandpaper to make it smooth. I'm also gonna a make a sign that says " home tweet home". I know it's cheesy but it cute too
August 1, 201113 yr I think your cubby house is going to look fantastic as a bird house !! Couldn't agree more Kz. Your cat is so cute.
August 2, 201113 yr Author Thanks guys. Just remembered that I havent taken a picture yet of my two normal blues. Will do that tonight before homework. I'm in the school library right now in English class Finished the work so I got some free time. Edited August 2, 201113 yr by Taylor
August 2, 201113 yr Author Thanks guys. Just remembered that I havent taken a picture yet of my two normal blues. Will do that tonight before homework. I'm in the school library right now in English class Finished the work so I got some free time. Just took some more pics of my budgies chomping away on millet spray. Gave them some beetroot this morning and Sunny looks like she's been punched in the face (not literally) BEETROOT STAINS EVERYWHERE!!!!
August 2, 201113 yr sunny is a young hen i would not breed her for 5 months at least 6 to be safe sounds like a good plan with your cubby Edited August 2, 201113 yr by GenericBlue
August 2, 201113 yr Author Sorry gb but these pics were taken MONTHS ago. She is old enough now though.. Sorry for confusion.....
August 2, 201113 yr Author It isn't actually I just cut thin slices from a whole fresh beetroot and put it in-between the clips in the aviary. They get more messy than I do. I just get my fingertips stained (nothing a bit of soap won't get rid of!)
August 2, 201113 yr I think Bing and Peppa are 2 very nice quality cocks, the others are really nice too but the those 2 stand out. Taylor I love your cubby house, I think it will make a great little birdroom.
August 2, 201113 yr Author Thanks splat. Peppa is 7 this year so he has past it. Bing is only 15 months old.
August 2, 201113 yr I think Bing is very nice. Peppa is only 7 that's not to bad for a cock. I know a breeder with a top bird, 2003-2004 actually had offered him to a friend for $500.00, he still filled the eggs. But my friend said NO because it's a huge amount of money for a 2003-2004 bird. but this bird is totally a top bird worth every cent if he was younger, probably in the thousands if he was a young bird. August 2, 201113 yr I grate my beetroot with carrot. add some oats and place in a dish. They will love it. Edited August 3, 201113 yr by Daz
August 2, 201113 yr Mine adore it, one day last week I gave it to them and went out later and I had forgot they had beetroot and I thought what you so and so, I thought a hen had killed the cock, and I thought the hen had killed the chicks too and then I remembered. lol
August 7, 201113 yr Author I grate my beetroot with carrot. add some oats and place in a dish. They will love it. I tried grated beetroot and carrot, and I found more of it on the floor than actually getting eaten. I don't know what vitamins are in beetroot, but I was told by my breeder, Lloyd richardson that it was good for them. Also don't freak out when you see pink/red on their faces and bright pink poop! I will post more pics tonight...
