September 11, 201113 yr Author Wow, so so so so sorry for the age long update! LOTS to update, so sorry in advance for the long post!! Pair 1: ( yellowface blue X sky blue) Well, reading this now, I just realised I may have chicks from them As mentioned down, will be able to see soon I guess. Pair 2: Pair 3: (cinnamon blues) Unfortunetley, I have lost the cock bird. He escaped through a hole in the cage. I patched it up, but it left mummy to be a single hen. She was on two foster chicks from nest 5. I had the third in the clearbody nest box, but as I mention later I moved him up. Pair 4: Pair 5: (spangle X normal) Well, All up I got 6 chicks! I was very happy. Oldest to youngest is: - Dark Green Opaline - Dark Green Spangle - Dark Green Normal - Light Green Spangle - Sky Blue Opaline Spangle - Light Green spangle maybe opaline. All chicks are doing superb. The two spangles are looking the best so far, The normal is pretty average. The spangle's have the nicest blow and mask. I like the older one better. Took the chicks out to clean the nest and put them in a show cage. For about 15-30 minutes, the spangle was the only one to sit on the perch, the WHOLE time. He just sat, and blew his gorgeous big head forward, looking at me with "that" look. I have good feelings about him. Pair 6: (blue clearbodies) They are on one chick. I did have the youngest spangle in there, but he is developing splay legs and weird hip joints. Every time I looked in, he was down other end of the box cold. So moved him up. Looking skinny and bony though :/ Will see how it goes. All of my record keeping is pretty shoddy the last couple weeks, so I had to go through and guess the next nest's chicks ages and I may not get my rings in time for the oldest few. -big sigh- Pair 7: (yellow clearbodies) 7 eggs, 4 are fertile. Pair 8: (normal green and blue) Well, 3 chicks are from the clearbodies in nest 6. Their was a big gap in chick size, and I didn't want to risk it. So I put them in this nest. There are 4 chicks in this nest, and one more looking fertile eggie. Pair 9: (lute X clearbody) On 2 fertile eggs, plus 3 chicks. They had another chick hatch yesterday, but died of yellowbelly. I didn't mind much though, because it was a cock bird, so they were on 3 cocks, but one died. I have two cocks now, and then today got my first little girl! I was so excited! Pair 10: (Lutino X Opaline) Such an exciting mummy! I have 4 chicks, she is doing such a fabulous job! I will be getting cocks split ino/opaline, and all hens split opaline. Looks like I have 3 hens so far, one cock bird. They are also on another 2 fertile eggs. Edited September 11, 201113 yr by Squeak_Crumble
September 12, 201113 yr Author Thanks both of you! It means alot I got another 3 chicks today, first one in the opaline clearbody nest. I got another lute X opaline, and a normal chick from the green and blue. Both went into the opaline clearbody nest, They will be easy to tell apart, but I just realised not from each other. Hope for a hen from the opaline nest I guess!
September 12, 201113 yr I really like opalines, got two! Can't wait to see the outcomes and chicks! Good luck!
September 12, 201113 yr Some VERY nice looking chicks to be precise! Edited September 12, 201113 yr by **KAZ**
September 12, 201113 yr hey things looking good the spangle is beautie just want to remind you hens can not be split to opaline QUOTE Pair 10: (Lutino X Opaline) Such an exciting mummy! I have 4 chicks, she is doing such a fabulous job! I will be getting cocks split ino/opaline, and all hens split opaline. Looks like I have 3 hens so far, one cock bird. They are also on another 2 fertile eggs.
September 12, 201113 yr I really like lutinos but can never find them! Unless I wanna pay nearly $50 for one at a petshop. Yep, they don't know how to price, I would pay $10 for the one down near me, it's in such bad shape I would never pay $50 for a sick bird.
September 12, 201113 yr I agree - some lovely looking birds. I really like lutinos but can never find them! Unless I wanna pay nearly $50 for one at a petshop. Yep, they don't know how to price, I would pay $10 for the one down near me, it's in such bad shape I would never pay $50 for a sick bird. Just on a side note, pet shops tend to charge more for the different mutations. You should never buy a sick bird, even if it is only $10. Bad for your other birds brining in disease and it only encourages shop keepers to sell birds not in good condition.
September 16, 201113 yr Author Done another head count today, and got my record ALL mixed up again! Woohoo! haha. I have it all written down on a peice of paper, lets hope I can just scrape it through until I have rings and can match colours to parents. All of this is only in the white cages, if anyone notcies something wrong, please say! I did change a few more chicks just then, so it may not match the photo's exactly. Nest 1- Opaline X Lutino hen. (also hen must be opaline, 100% opalines) Chicks - 5 (all rung) Chick 1 (3.9.2011) Chick 2 (3.9.2011) Chick 3 (4.9.2011) Chick 4 (5.9.2011) Chick 5 (5.9.2011) Nest 2- Clearbody Hen X Lute Cock (2 hens from these guys, so happy!) Chicks - 4 (oldest rung) Chick 1 (6.9.2011) Chick 2 (10.9.2011) Chick 3 (10.9.2011) Chick 4 (15.9.2011) Nest 3- Normal Birds Chicks - 5 (oldest 2 rung) Chick 1 (6.9.2011) Chick 2 (8.9.2011) Chick 3 (10.9.2011) Chick 4 (10.9.2011) Chick 5 (12.9.2011) Nest 4 - opaline clearbodys Chicks - 5 (none rung) Chick 1 (12.9.2011) Chick 2 (14.9.2011) Chick 3 (14.9.2011) Chick 4 (16.9.2011) Just need to remember, any clearbodies I get will be opaline. yellow series belong to nest 4, and violet/blues are for that hen with the single older chick that is pair 7.. or something. Could I still get yellows from them? I dont mind incredibly I don't have the chicks ages down pat, but as long as they are within a few days it is fine. Total chick count is 25. Pictures of first 3 chicks, head of the blue in one as well - Spangles looking fab. Oldest compared to Daddy first picture! Will put oldest.... 5 in kindy cage. Give poor single mum a break! Fed her lot full though, very chubby birds!
September 17, 201113 yr Author Oh gorgeous little chickies! Thanks Renee! I had another chick hatch in nest 4. So it goes (in order) 5 chicks, 4 chicks, 5 chicks, 6 chicks. It finally looks like I am done! woohoo! No more eggs to hatch in this lost. Will be nice and even at 5 chicks a nest. I would have preferred less, but it means more chicks I guess!
September 17, 201113 yr It finally looks like I am done! woohoo! No more eggs to hatch in this lot. Will be nice and even at 5 chicks a nest. I would have preferred less, but it means more chicks I guess! Good for you! I was used to those kind of stats in years gone by .....
September 17, 201113 yr Lovely chicks Squeak, well done , that spangle is lovely. You must be proud. I have to admit you have done much better than me.
September 18, 201113 yr Author Thankyou for all the kind comments The oldest 4 are in a large flight cage, with mum and dad. They are doing very well, opaline green and oldest spangle perching and jumping around. All chicks are eating. Foster mum is on the spangle blue and youngest green spangle. I have a special cock bird in mind for the Mum, a big buffy bird who I could hopefully put back to some of these guys. @splat no way! this is only one clutch that I struck lucky with maybe. I need to wait and see how they moult. Your birds are far better then mine!
September 18, 201113 yr @splat no way! this is only one clutch that I struck lucky with Hun can i suggest if you struck it good and got great results with the clutch not to change the pairing so many go changing pairings around thinking if they did that imagine what these two could do only to be disappointed with the new pairings results if i get a pair that click thats it they are pairred for life the cock gets pairred out when hen is resting to new hen if he himself does not need a rest bar that they are life partners so long as at my stud Edited September 18, 201113 yr by Finnie just quote tags
September 25, 201113 yr Author Thanks GB. This will be the only time I change the pairing though, This cock bird was going to be the original partner to the hen, but I bought the green cock at an auction and just wanted to give him a test drive. I will be sure to repeat it though. Pair 3: (cinnamon blues) Discovered I did actually get a chick from them! The chick in the clearbody nest is actually a cinnamon blue. The grey cinnamon cock pictured above, is one I will put to her after a 7 day break Pair 4: Pair 5: They had 6 chicks, but the last one was looking a bit funny so I euthanesed it. Very pleased with my overall results from these. 2 Dark Green Spangle's, 1 Dark Green Opaline, 1 Normal Dark Green, 1 Sky Blue Opaline Spangle. All of the spangle's are looking the best quality, very very pleased on the markings on the 2 dark greens. I have a hen and a cock bird. The Opaline green looks like a hen, and the sky blue looks like a cock. Pair 6: They are on the only cinnamon blue's chick. Looking nice and big. I will be removing the clearbody mum in the next few days, as she has a past of killing chicks as they fledge. Pair 7: (yellow clearbodies) 6 chicks, all good Pair 8: (normal green and blue) I woke up this morning, to find the cock bird dead in nest The hen is on 5 chicks now by herself, and I can't move any chicks. The cock bird must have died of a sickness. Pair 9: (lute X clearbody) All doing good. 4 Chicks. Pair 10: Freakin devil hen, I swear. The chicks have been coming out of the nest, and as soon as I put my hand in there to put them in the nest, BOOM. At me like a cat is a mouse. I need to make sure I am wearing a jumped with sleeves. All are doing good though. 5 chicks. 1 Violet, 1 Blue Clearbody, Normal Green, Opaline Green, Green Pied. Pair 11: Whats this!? Another pair you may ask? Well, I had a spare cage open, so I decided to try the fallows again. First two chicks hatched yesterday..... 2 fallows I have 2 pied chicks crop up. I have come to 2 possible conclusions - 1. One of my pairs is are both split rec pied. It would be either my normal pair, my clearbodyXlute pair, or my lute hen to opaline cock. 2. However....! I am thinking that my lutino hen X Opaline cock bird are the parents. The chicks is looking to be grey green. But, if it is a dom.pied, then one of the parents would need to be a visual. This could mean the either lute pair are the parents. Because these chicks are the oldest though, I think it is the luteXopaline pair, as they were the first pair to have eggs. But, the clearbody henX lute cock is unlikely, as the hen would NOT be split rec.pied. So the cock would need to be a visual dom.pied. Will see what happens though. Edited September 25, 201113 yr by Squeak_Crumble
October 3, 201113 yr Author Pair 5: All looking very good. I will enter the better spangle green, and the opaline blue in a nest feather on October 29th The opaline green is looking to have an incredibly clean mantle, stoked. (Next to Dad) Pair 6: Mum was getting a bit fiesty, one of the chicks has a bloody toenail but he may have just got it caught. Removed her anyway. I have been moving chicks into this nest as they age, and have the 5 oldest in there. 1 Blue TCB and 1 Violet (that's actually their's), the cinnamon blue, opaline green (obviously from pair 10) and normal green. Pair 7: (yellow clearbodies) They are on 5 chicks. They are not very good parents, chicks looking skinny. The youngest is also needing to be euthanesed, very very skinny and malnourished. Wished I had a foster. It is one of my two lute hens. Not in picture. I can't move any chicks up, will explain below. Pair 8: (normal green and blue) Mum is on the two chicks, and has been feeding them, but the nest does not look healthy at all. The chicks are looking alright, not thriving though. I can't move the chicks up to this nest, in case there is a sickness. Pulling my hair out. I have been topping chicks from both nests up. In the picture, there is 3 chicks, but I moved the dark grey up to the next nest. Has been putting on weight and is healthy, which makes me think it is not a sickness, but maybe the hen...? Pair 9: (lute X clearbody) On 4 chicks, doing very well. Looking to have a violet opaline, whose parents I assume around the blue/violet clearbody pair. Clearbody blues and violet's everywere Pair 10: chicks are thriving! 2 green opaline, and my first lute hen....and.... I have 2 clearwings in this nest. Turns out the birds I thought were pied's, are in fact Clearwings. I am putting the parents as the sky X grey green hen. I am very surprised. Not only are they clearwings, but they are looking to be the biggest and best birds as far as quality goes in this round! Foundation for a new line? Gave the nest a clean, topped up with shavings. Mum decided to re-design the decor Pair 11: Still 2 visual fallows, 4 non-red eyed. I have decided that I am not even going to RING the non-fallows. I will raise them as pets to sell, pretty violets and blues. Resist the temptation to test mate....
October 3, 201113 yr Lovely chicks, you are doing great Squeak. look forward to seeing those chicks moult out

October 3, 201113 yr Gorgeous little chickies! And you may think you are not so organised but I really admire how you can list a pairing and then all the chicks with DOBs ... my chicks are all over the place and while technically I know where they all are it will take me a year and a day to put it all together like you have!
