July 29, 201113 yr Generally when there is blood the chick will bleed out and die. If air gets in the chick will stick to the shell and dry out too. Edited July 29, 201113 yr by **KAZ**
July 29, 201113 yr That's what I think to Kaz, I have never got a live chick from an egg that has a crack blood has come out.
July 29, 201113 yr Author Im not so, sure it will make it, i will proberly have only 4 budgies hatched, i will upload pictures when they hatch, Peace out XD
July 29, 201113 yr I dont think the chick in the cracked egg will survive. In a day or two you may see some dark marks on the shell indicating a dead in shell chick.
July 29, 201113 yr Thanxs Kaz, if yes, that happens, should i remove it from the box? Personally, I dont allow any cracked eggs to say in the box for any period of time. A cracked egg leaks...it can stick to the mothers chest or it can stick to other eggs, causing problems.
July 30, 201113 yr Oh thats no good to hear nathan lets hope the other eggs all hatch without problems.
July 30, 201113 yr Author Hey guys. Sadly, the hen someone rolled it out f the nest box, and it cracked more:( I actually saw, the chick inside, which had abit of yolk, and i saw its eyes inside. I am very sad, because my birthday is in a week or so. But my parents allow me to get anyother pair and cage to breed. But again, i am very sad for that chick that didn't make it. All 4 eggs in there now are fertile and looking great, so at least that is a good thing:)
December 12, 201212 yr I came across this thread while searching for a solution to a similar problem. My hen laid 6 viable eggs, and the first 3 hatched at 17th day of incubation. I noticed the 4th egg was covered in poop, so to clean it up in order to prevent bacterial infection, I used a moist tissue paper to wipe it clean. While doing so, a poop seemed glued to the shell. I was able to remove it, but it came off with a bit of the shell, creating a hole in the egg (the 16th day of incubation). Immediately blood started oozing out of that hole. I looked up for some solutions, and I didn't have nail polish at home. I pressed gently on the open area to stop the bleeding. I placed the egg back in the nest when the bleeding stopped. The chick hatched just now. If it were too weak, it probably would have died inside. You can see the dried blood inside in the picture above, and on the outside in the picture below. I'm not happy I made a mistake, but I'm happy that the chick survived. The membrane may have repaired itself a bit. So if someone else comes across this thread due to experiencing a similar problem, I hope they'll give the egg a chance to survive instead of disposing of the eggs immediately. Every life is precious, and miracles do happen. I think it's best to wait till the inside of the egg turns greyish indicating a dead in shell chick before disposing of it. And if this happens near to the hatch date, it's worth the shot of giving it a chance. It might not be the same in the case of an underdeveloped chick. .But if the crack can be fixed with nail polish, it might be worth waiting to make sure the chick is dead before disposing of the egg.
