Posted July 25, 201113 yr I have a baby budgie (don't know how old) & I'm worried about his health. He has a dirty bottom (leaf green colour) & when I came home today he had poo on his beak aswell & I've just seen him picking at his bottom. I only got him yesterday so I thought he is still scared. He has eaten today & done lots of poo's- again a leaf green & white colour, they have no smell to them. Please help Thankyou
July 25, 201113 yr Get some cotton wool and put it under LUKEWARM water. Clean his/her bottom gently. As long as he is eating that's a good sign. Is the poos he doing really runny (like diarrhea)? If so I'd take it to a vet preferably an avian (bird) vet. Does he just sit there sulking? Ps by the way try and stay calm they can sense when your stressed
July 25, 201113 yr If you just got him he is probably real stressed. Try not to bother him too much, and if you can cover his cage at night. Are they solid? If they are super runny then i would be worried. But if they are solid, you've seen him eating (actually eating not just playing in the seed) and drinking then I would just blame stress.
July 25, 201113 yr Your budgie may be a bit stressed especially if he is really young. A picture of his cere(nose) and a clear one of his bum could help. I mean bottom... Post back tomorrow so we can hear how the little Tucker is going Edited July 25, 201113 yr by Taylor
July 25, 201113 yr Author His poo's aren't runny, quite solid & quite big (I have another budgie & his poo's are a fair bit smaller) I'm quite sure he's eaten as there was empty seed husks in & around his food bowl , but I haven't actually seen him eating. There was also seed husks in his water dish too. Yesterday he was just sitting on the bottom of the cage but today when I came home from work he was up on his swing. His cere looks okay, no dry crusty bits on it & it's nice & pink. But as I said his bottom is a mess & I will do my best to clean it with him squirming lol poor little thing. I have left 3 sides of his cage covered over yesterday & today, & he's just starting chirping a little bit tonight.
July 25, 201113 yr Well it sounds like you are doing everything right and he is just a little nervous being in a new surrounding with new people noises and food He'll get used to it all eventually, just give him time and don't rush him.
July 25, 201113 yr That's what we re here for Thats what this forum is for. Helping and knowledge. PS i mean to help people and learn (just in case I wasn't clear)
July 26, 201113 yr Author I tried to clean his bum but its really stained. Does this look normal?? & also I don't know when he has been wormed, is it safe to do it again anyway or should I wait a few months? Sorry it's not the best photo, I only have my phone atm. July 26, 201113 yr Don't be too worried about his bottom. Birds will preen themselves naturally and they usually fix it themselves. Personally I wouldn't of done this as it would just add to his stress level. He had to be caught restrained and poked in the nether regions with something damp without him knowing what adn why. I would just let him be from now on until he is completely settled.
